I enjoy growing mushrooms too, even if just edible ones.  They're good for you as well.  The thing that keeps me interested in mushrooms is that they grow so fast, just about doubling in size each day.  This past year, I tried growing some plants such as morning glory and cactus and they just seemed so slooooow compared to growing mushrooms that it was hard to stay interested.

As you probably know, there's a couple of good mycology forums online - which is where I learned most of my techniques.
