Overjoyed to find this place

Rising Star
Hi all. I just want to start off by saying how fantastic this community is. I'm in American who is currently working on a postgrad degree in the UK. I studied philosophy at uni. After having a few mystical experiences (which, as you know are profoundly life changing but cannot be properly captured with language), I have been on a constant quest for more knowledge about the mind, spirituality, and the universe.

I think this forum in particular represents perhaps the most daring and profound locus of experimental knowledge out there today. In the western world the first revolution in human understanding and speculative imagination was the age of Pericles in Athens. Then came the Enlightenment of the 17th and 18th centuries. The internet opens up a profound new space for an exponential gain in understanding. Forums, by their very nature, foster expert advice in different areas. In my personal opinion, this is perhaps the most exciting area of experimental philosophy out there today. Terence Mckenna would have been proud to see this forum. I hope I can share in profound project of mapping out human consciousness and the underlying principles of the universe which has been made possible by these exciting shamanic technologies.

A little background on the limited psychonautic experiences of my buddy SWIM. He has tried Psilocybin mushrooms at a rather lose dosage. He has dabbled with Salvia, the last time of which was horrendously frightening and profound (easily 10 times more frightening than the time he nearly drowned in the ocean). He is also had some pretty interesting experiences with cannabis, particularly combined with some meditative practices. His experience with the mind-states brought about by the ingestion of hashish would rival those described by Charles Baudelaire and Walter Benjamin. SWIM hopes to try some LSD and fly agaric this summer. SWIM wants to try DMT more than anything in the world, and he fully expects it will be the most important experience of his lifetime. Unfortunately, SWIM won't be living in housing safe to extract such sacred molecules for another six months or so.

I'm thrilled to be here. I hope me and SWIM can gain both practical and philosophical wisdom in this great place.

Cheers,
James

Welcome psycho-not look forward to more of your posts, especially with your philosophy background. Are you aware of the Eleusinian Mysteries and their profound effect on Western Philosophy through Plato/Socrates' likely induction into the Mysteries? Dr. Hofmann and Ruck wrote an excellent work on this very subject.

welcome my friend. I look forward to reading more of you.

True this place is something special... Its levelling at its best. Power to the people.

Welcome welcome welcome. Sounds like you have a lot to contribute; glad to have you aboard and look forward to learning all about you.

Cheers,

Safe travels, my friend.

I'm quite unfamiliar with this. I will look into it. As of late, for my coursework, all my philosophy studies have been with political philosophy. In my spare time I've been looking into tons of philosophy of religion and writings about mysticism. I plan on reading through Spinoza's ethics with some mates this summer, which will be a nice change of pace.

Cheers

Devon is absolutely beautiful. We had a nice full week of sunshine a few days ago. Next time the sun comes out I'm totally popping down to Exmouth or some other beach. :D

Welcome, friend. You've certainly got the right mindset for exploring this medicine to it's highest and best potential.

In terms of first hand mystical/existential experience... rest assured that until you have taken the Red Pill that is DMT, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Cool I took a college course on Spinoza; be sure to check out his "Treatise on the Emendation of the Understanding", a lesser known but straight-to-the-point text written about 15 years before the Ethics but published in the same year, 1677. It's available online at On the Improvement of the Understanding (Treatise on the Emendation of the Intellect) by Baruch Spinoza [Benedict de Spinoza] - Full Text Free Book
