Oh LOL. Okay, Imma try the opposite. In Aug I'm going to get some more MXE, then I'll watch Cloud Atlas Again. Maybe the whole thing will be 3 seconds behind.

I just want to say, thanks for recommending Cloud Atlas. What an incredible movie! I haven't seen a movie that well done, with so much story and heart for ages.
I am definitely going to watch it again, as I'm sure I missed plenty of things.

Elysium - I'm always looking for a good dystopian vision of the future, and for me Elysium satisfied in that perfect, fluffy, "popcorn & candy" kind of way I enjoy for movies of this nature.
Just down the road and a bit later in time, . . brought to us by the folks who made, District Nine . . .
Elysium was thought to be a paradise of an afterlife for the dead who had lived good and blessed lives by the Ancient Greeks.
How ironic, then, that we are shown a world of 2154, where life on Earth has completely gone to pot and not at all in a good way, yet an impressively HUGE wheel-type space station exists in geosynchronous orbit that offers all that is missing back on Earth and is called, Elysium.
We are shown very early on and in no uncertain terms just how bad things are on Earth (looks like everyone gave up on environmental regulations and that many resources are exhausted) and the gorgeous estates, high technology and wonderful healing machines that exist just a shuttle jaunt away.
Our hero is put into a dilemma that literally changes everything for him early in the plot, and then spends time dealing with factors in order to try to get up into orbit. His agenda is both personal and political/ethical for everyone.
Jodie Foster plays the Cast Iron B***h role up in Elysium very nicely. What the hell? Is she aging backwards - she looks younger than me,
The ending was both satisfying and lame to me in a way. Some things are resolved very nicely and others seem very unrealistic. Nonetheless, this one was worth the price of admission to me and I'd recommend it for a fun, yet grim evening.

Ender's Game - This title is locked up in a lot of memories for many a sci-fi fan, myself included. Many folks were excited to hear about this release. Some, such as myself, were a bit more cautious. Personally, I felt the concept was way past it's time - something that seemed novel and futuristic when I read it in the late 1980's, now seems almost passe to me.
But, I'll give credit where it's due. This was a decent movie. I recommend it as a fast, tight, not wasting any of your time, kind of popcorn and candy flick.
I understand Orson Scott Card had nothing to do with this production, having sold the rights to his original book long long ago. Yet, this movie seemed to stick to the book, in a stripped down manner, at least as I remembered it.
Earth is in a terrible interstellar conflict with insectoid creatures, called the Formix. We use kids to lead our troops because they have fast reaction times, and also because the leadership can shape the kids more completely than they could older recruits. The battles are fought in space and planetary atmospheres with capital ships, smaller attack ships and drones.
Ender Wiggins is a "third born," someone who's birth had to be pre-approved because it exceeded the authorized numbers. In a way he was actually somehow bred for this training program.
We follow Ender as he progresses through his various levels of training and beyond . . .
There was a huge battle with the Formix in the past that was won for Earth by one man's decisive actions. The trainers constantly show what he did. They are trying to create another hero/leader. They are not secretive about their motives.
Throughout, we see Ender striving to understand what is really going on and to hold onto his humanity, regardless of who he is or who he becomes.
There are some great ethical issues explored (though not terribly in depth) in this movie - what is right and what is wrong about things like making a soldier, making a leader, fighting a war, using a new "unthinkable" weapon, what to tell children, when to lie to children, who is the real enemy, is it ever right to hurt or kill when the enemy is down? And more.
It stays true to the ending of the book (as my old memories tell me) and leaves a nice opening for the next movie, if they choose to go in that direction. Regardless, Ender's Game was a decent ride.
If you abhor movies that involve military training - you'll want to avoid this one.

I went into this movie expecting not to like it because I'm not a huge fan of that clique of actors but I thought it was much funnier than I expected. The friend I saw it with hated it though, I think the humor they use is pretty hit or miss depending on the person.
Honestly though 2013 hasn't been the best year for movies.. I can't think of a single movie that debuted this year that I really loved.

I always love reading your reviews Pandora, thanks for taking the time to do them! And I have to say, Cloud Atlas is a fantastic film. Perhaps I enjoyed it more because I read the book before seeing it, but I still think the movie stands on its own.
