Paper suggest possible alien probe visit to our solar system

Migrated topic.

If this object was indeed an alien spaceship, then, what a bummer.....they just didn't think we where interesting enough to pay a visit to.

It could be that we are interesting, it's just that the probe is limited to using solar sails and can only along a predetermined orbit around our local star. If the hypothetical probe data is analyzed, they may send a more complex object capable of slowing down (which takes a lot of energy), with earth as it's final destination. That would take a few thousand years I guess, hopefully we are still around :p

They probably took a closer look at our world leaders in power :surprised

If it was a craft of some sort, there's a possibility it was already on a pre-planned slingshot orbit to somewhere else entirely. Although there would have been a reasonable opportunity for analysing any radio signals beamed out from that little blue planet while on the approach, giving plenty of time to abort the planned launch of any probes.

Of course those hypothetical probes would of necessity be smaller than 'Oumuamua itself. That would make them even harder to spot, were they deployed.

Even if, as is most likely the case, this object is of natural cosmological origin it's still fascinating to consider just how it might have been formed.
