How big should I let this grow to before taking it off to root on its own?

It can probably go until it starts to get weighted down, then chop it and keep the engine running on that pere ;]

i'd keep it on there long past that, use stakes to hold it up

How long can one expect the peres to pump up the tricho before corking up? If the tricho is cut after say about 30cm of growth, ~ 1 yr. how well will the second generation pups fare? and does the peres longevity vary with individual peres clones/growth rate/other?
