pH DOWN as a source of phosphoric acid ???

SWIM has contemplated using phosphoric acid rather than acetic, but has had trouble finding it locally...SWIM understands it can be found in food prep, and also read that it can be found in hydroponic stores in the guise of pH DOWN, used to reduce pH levels...What SWIM would like to know is, is it ok to use this, when it has a phosphoric acid content of 850 g/l or will the other 15% cause contamination??? Thanks guys...any quick replies much appreciated..
 
i got some ph down that i use for the ext teks its supposed to give higher yields than acetic depending wot tek your using but havnt used it porperly yet to compare. mine is from my local grow shop, but i also use it for my plants to adjust ph. now that ive checked its only 81%, i cant see the extra % being contaminants its probably just water. i did check the back but it doesnt have ingredients listed so imo it should just be water its mixed with.
even if its not water you can be sure its probably safer than the acid to begin with as its designed for use in plants, if they put anything dodgy in it it would affect the plants, i would assume. i cant see if affecting the tek in any way the dmt handbook uses ph down and it seems to work fine in that.
 
Thanks mate...thats has pretty much confirmed SWIMS thoughts to a tee...SWIM was guessing that water would make up the other 15% and would be fine considering it is used on hydro's but always likes to "double check"...So it is safe to say you, or your FOAF has used this before, and had no problems when x-talising or smoking the end product??? Higher yields are also SWIMS primary reason for making the switch from acetic acid as he is of the understanding that the trytamines do not bind as well to acetic acid, compared to Phosphoric....?
 
ive only used it in one ext as i started off with a STB so didnt need an acid but it seemed fine with the one small ext i did.
il see if i can find out exactly wot else in in it, i really cant see it would be anything other than water though, and yea thats wot i read that dmt doesnt bind well to acetic acid or is easily broken down or something like that.
 
Thanks again guys, and this pH down is definately Phosphoric @ 850 g/l SWIM still cant see any problem using it...SWIM noticed the other day that his FOAF's Hydrochloric Acid was something like 650 g/l, so surely the Phosphoric shouldnt be a problem...Cheers...
 
Just checked that link ChampionPuffa, and thanks, was helpful...SWIM has dealt with ENDLESS before and his info has always been helpful...pH down it is :twisted:

assume nothing

lots of stuff you give plants, even "organics" shouldn't enter the human body directly

always look up the msds of a particular product, it is much easier than you think

here is one example.

note 3 separate ingredients listed....including
mono ammonium phosphate
how will that effect crystallization, if at all?
 
for the purpose of this thread, based on that MSDS, what would one expect the effects of the citric acid and mono ammonium phosphate to actually have as an end result, considering it would be diluted to a pH of 3.5 into approximately 4/5 litres of D-H2O? would the worry be of this be that it would effect re-crystalisation or more directed at toxicology properties?
 
I've never tried it in a extraction but ive bought Klean Strip Prep & Etch (phophoric acid) from home depot, green liquid comes in a gallon jug. Idk if its pure or what additives it has..
