The creators of android Dick uploaded the deceased author’s work onto the android’s software, as well as conversations with other writers. If the android was asked a question that had been posed to the real Dick, the robot would answer the question as Dick would. The robot was also able to answer a series of complex questions. If the robot was asked a question that it was unfamiliar with, its software would attempt to answer the question using what is called “latent semantic analysis.”(1)

It's a beautiful homage to the writer of Blade Runner. 😁

People on my Facebook keep talking about this, but it's not actually as cool as it seems. It's less like I-Robot and a lot more like the existing AIs used by corporations to do things like determine you're interests. It's not too difficult for an AI to make predictions from a corpus of data, and even to update it's predictions in changes to the corpus. It's how the internet is so good at learning who you are, and predicting the kinds of things you'll click on, like, and buy.

The 'zoo' quote only came about because those are themes Dick explored. If I uploaded all the things Snookie has ever said, you'd be unlikely to get the same result. It's certainly cool, but this isn't the robot apocalypse.

As a fan of Dick, this is as cool as it gets. :d

It reminds me a lot of Dixie Flatline, the construct from Neuromancer.
