Physical sensations while tripping on DMT

I have tried DMT in smoked changa, vaporised freebase and oral forms.
There is a variety of surprising physical sensations that I have experienced as I pass from physical being to the infinite realms of pure energy.

Golden vision
My first DMT experience was with changa, I had no idea what to expect and was quite nervous when the effect came on. The first thing I noticed was my vision taking on a golden tint, everything I looked at had a warmer sunset colour.

Simplified reality vision
Everything I looked at seemed like a simplified, simulated version of reality without much texture, it felt like I had slightly phased out of the full resolution of physical reality.

"Spikiness"
This feels like micropoints of pain felt all over my body, more aggressive than pins and needles, it is possibly some electrical phenomenon as you tune out of the normal physical frequency.

Vibrations
They seem centred at the heart and can be felt/heard/sensed, the stronger the trip the more intense these vibrations become.

Shivering
It's possibly a winter thing but these vibrations sometimes manifest as full body shivers, they can be very intense and controllable when you focus on the vibrations

Open-eye visuals
I first experienced this when I smoked changa during a strong LSD trip, wherever I looked, I saw beautiful and intricate fractal patterns covering my vision.

Hologram visuals
This was my most profound experience with my eyes open, I was just staring at the ceiling in a calm meditative state after the peak of an LSD + DMT trip and in the corner of my vision I saw something moving, I focused on it and witnessed a ring of eagles flying around in a circle, it looked like a 3 dimensional hologram.

Hyperspace orgasm
This occurs regularly when I vape spice, it took me a while to work out how it happens but it is linked to my breathing. I would hold the spice vapours in for as long as possible, which helped focus on the launch into hyperspace, then I would empty my lungs and squeeze all the oxygen out, at this point the trip effect would usually come on really strong and I would launch into hyperspace, the buzzing would start and I would naturally contract the muscles of my whole body to experience something similar in intensity to an orgasm. If you're familiar with Dragon Ball Z, it's like going "Super Sayan"

Energy flow
Along with the buzzing, I would feel feel an energy flow through my body, usually from bottom up.

Headaches
I seem to experience this less than before, it was usually a sign that I was beginning my trip. I learnt that I could ease the pains simply by focusing on it and releasing the tension. It rarely occurs anymore but I've noticed that I can cause brain pain when I put my hand on my head. I think that this evolution is evidence of a "rewiring" of my brain from regular psychedelic use.

Instant stomach pain relief
This was very strange, it seems like the stomach pain you experience during a breakthrough dose of oral DMT is a kind of hyperdimensional travel sickness. One time, this pain instantly disappeared once the buzzing started. I was amazed.

La purga (purging)
I would dry purge a lot when I tried 5-Meo-DMT, constant belching too.
I only experienced la purga last weekend after trying mimosahuasca oral DMT made from root bark for the first time. Before it occured, I received a kind of telepathic message, the feeling you get when you taste vomit in your mouth came into my mind, a few seconds later, I rushed to the toilet to purge, nothing came out, I just dry retched 3-4 times then went back to bed to find that I was now allowed into the multi-dimensional frequency. Now I understand why ayahuasceros encourage this part of the ceremony.

Nausea
I usually drink ginger tea to attenuate nausea but if that isn't enough, I know that I'm going to have an intense trip. I think that it is part of the inter-dimensional travel sickness symptoms, it disappears when you "tune in" to hyperspace.

Peripheral tracers
This occurs with strong doses of Syrian rue tea, more than 6 grams of seeds. There seems to be a glowing frame surrounding my vision that jerkily follows my focus.

Disorientation
Pretty normal when taking mind altering substances, but I've experienced reduced balance, dizziness and spinning vision

Great list I've experienced most of these.

It seems like more comfortable you get with the medicine, the more you can appreciate what you can receive from it.

My most recent experience for which I am very grateful was a deep peace accompanied with sense of bodylessness. I felt like my consciousness was hovering approximately on the location of my body but I felt totally weightless and my breathing was so unconstrained. I also felt more like my true self than I have felt for a long time.

I'm so grateful for this gift But it requires work and appreciation to experience it to the fullest.

Let me use your template to formulate my response I have only used DMT in conjunction with MAOI once, so my answers will be in reference to smoked DMT on its own. My personal experience with smoked DMT is rather extensive.


Golden vision
Yes, I have experienced this.

Simplified reality vision
I have very much experienced this loss of texture that you describe. Colors also get flatter, matte or pastel almost, so if something is a weave of hues, it gets simplified to one shade. Shapes also get more angular, so if a blanket I am under has an undulating ridge, that would be smoothed out into a few lines instead of its normal wavy edge. Sometimes it is like the world turns into "LEGO land."

"Spikiness"
I have not experienced this.

Vibrations
Yes, I have also experienced a vibrational aspect to the DMT body high.

Shivering
I have not experienced this.

Open-eye visuals
I have not experienced fractals with my open eye visuals. My OEVs are typically comprised of sharp lines or flowing patterns. Maybe I have seen fractals however, and cannot remember--it's totally possible, since I tend to rush in putting down my pipe and getting comfortable before laying back and closing my eyes.

Hologram visuals
Nothing I can remember of note here.

Hyperspace orgasm
I don't think so, definitely never an orgasm in the ejaculatory sense of the word.

Energy flow
My strongest physical sensation from smoked DMT by far is a warm rush that flows throughout my body. It feels like the universe is hugging me. On occasion this warmth will last for 30 minutes or more after smoking, depending on my state of mind and the setting. It is easily my second favorite ever-dependable aspect of DMT, the first being its uncanny sense of familiarity.

Headaches
I have never gotten a headache from DMT.

Instant stomach pain relief
I can't comment on this, sorry.

La purga (purging)
I have not sensed a need or desire to purge with DMT or vaporhuasca.

Nausea
My one vaporhuasca experience (4g rue tea, ??mg DMT smoked @ T+0:15) was quite strong and elicited no nausea. My stomach was empty at the time. Smoked DMT on its own has never given me any nausea.

Peripheral tracers
I have only experienced this with MAOI on its own or in combination with DMT.

Disorientation
I have not experienced this on DMT. I am also always laying down on my bed.

It feels like my mind is tuning in to a different radio station, to use a poor analogy. When I close my eyes, I intuit that I am visiting a space within my own mind which is neither here nor there. On lower doses, when I enter this space, which is like a hyperspatial living room, there is a static that fades as the visuals come into focus. If I haven't taken enough, they never quite acquire crisp detail, and this white noise will stay. If I do take enough, the static abates after a very short period of time and the hum of the trip grows stronger, along with the feeling of corporeal warmth. I find breakthrough doses to be somewhat chaotic and actually much prefer a "strong" waiting room dose. I still encounter presences at this dose, which I would discern from entities simply because they lack the form (yet still impart communication without words). The communication almost always is a clear message of love, caring, belonging, and acceptance.

I get what you mean about the waiting/living room dose, I describe it as "the loving place" and is just as you describe for me too. A few times on a strong dose of oral DMT I would stay there for a while and really enjoy it but then would get sucked into a higher dimension as the spice effects grew in strength, I didn't want to leave. Having said that, the chaotic higher states are pretty epic too once you get used to them.

Yes! Even at threshold doses and before/after the trip everything has this different color.
It is different and makes things more interesting.

Simplified reality vision
Yes things become more simplistic, simple shaded colors, but brighter and things start to have extra dimension to them.

Haven't experienced that.

Vibrations
Can't say I remember experiencing any particular vibrations.

Shivering
Some shivering definitely post-trip, having a dedicated "trip blanket" had definitely helped with that

Open-eye visuals
At certain doses there is no distinction between them, you forget if you had eyes open or closed. You forget yourself. But in terms of blending with reality, it's like reality dissolves into absurdity through first simplification and voxelization and then twisting and giving it another dimension.

Hologram visuals
Never such visuals, like realistic anything - my visuals are always sci-fi/mystical/geometric/crazy looking aliens and entities. Friends reported seeing animals though, like foxes and rabbits.

Hyperspace orgasm
Never had experienced anything like that, but I had my share of all-encompassing love trips. It's like when you feel loved, caressed and treated to trip to a cosmic gardens. Divine experiences.

Energy flow
Had never focused on that part of experience tbh.

Headaches
Never had headaches from psychedelics.

Instant stomach pain relief
Never risked travelling when feeling unwell.

La purga (purging)
This is a part of psychedelic experience. I haven't met anyone who hasn't purged on psychedelics.

Nausea
Never has any particular problems with nausea, even with hawaian baby wood rose seeds it was tolerable. I stomach mushrooms well too.

Peripheral tracers
Haven't had that problem, though occasionally seeing elves in a peripheral vision post strong DMT dose was common.

Disorientation
Yep. Better be sitting or lying down.

Fake pissed pants feeling
It's when you feel like your ass is wet and you had pissed your pants and the chair you are sitting on is wet, but then you come back from the trip and find in relief that the chair and pants are dry.
Made me sure that my bladder and bowels are empty prior to the trip.

Closed eye phase of launch to the elf-land
You took your 2nd/3rd toke and you close your eyes and typical blackness start to have patterns and you can see these patters form another patterns and them start spinning faster and faster while visual field becomes more contrast and real than common reality and then whooose. These spinning things can be silly, like swastikas made of clown legs.

Elf-land
Where you meet elves, they can be playful and trickstery. You can also meet alien consciousness here, alien entities. You can be shown a lot of things there, though most of it seems absurd upon return.

I like this little list - and it's interesting to compare the phenomenology between Changa and just DMT (I tend to almost exclusively smoke Changa so the MAOI is always present)

Not so much other than what would normally be expected from outside light

Vibrations
Quite Often, my body will vibrate either as a means of expelling or releasing stuck, blocked or 'negative' energy (usually like a nervous energy feeling) - but also this results in a peak where that energy is let go off and the body is able to relax into a state of physical bliss. Also though there is a harmonious vibration - where the body vibrates in alignment with the DMT's vibration that can run through certain areas of the body and certainly feels like a kind of healing or a gift

Shivering
More so after orally ingestion and have had it mostly in ayahuasca ceremonies as the brew is coming on.

Open-eye visuals
Of course...but this is all down to what part of the journey one chooses to open their eyes in...and for me I like closed eyes inside and open eyes outside (though this can be hard t maintain as it gets stronger and eventually it reaches a point where the internal visions spill into the outside world and vice versa. One of the first signs it is coming on for me is a high resolution appearance to everything and the typical fractal, fibbonacci patterns in nature particularly around clouds and generally patterns in all forms of nature.

Hologram visuals
Not sure what this means really...its all kind of 'holographic' in the sense that there is an inner light illuminating the visions from within.

Hyperspace orgasm
Yep!full Godgasm or soulgasm is common with 5-MeO-DMT but I've had some rather erotic sensations on n-n with genitals being tickled, caressed and so forth.

Energy flow
The way energy flows within and without the body, between people present in the session, the atmosphere, the land and all the way up to the universe and reality itself is a persistent phenomenon for sure. An important aspect of understanding how our beings are aligned with each other and our environment.

Headaches
Only when other herbs have been present in the mix, like Blue Lotus, Brugmansia or mullein (which is only if others have made it (I mostly stick to Caapi leaf)

Instant stomach pain relief
Have witnessed instant pain relief in some participants and it seems that it is an aspect of DMT's healing abilities

La purga (purging)
In reference to DMT, only a couple of times on Changa (plenty on ayahuasca of course). However, it feels that purging can happen in a myriad of ways too though, like shaking, yawning, crying, groaning, breathing, burping, etc.

Nausea
Only on Changa/DMT after pre-loading with Harmalas

Peripheral tracers
not in the sense that one would get from LSD

Disorientation
Once really notably after a near 'abduction' like experience and a few times when its been really strong and I've forgotten where I am (or what I am!). I've seen a few participants have a rough time landing after a session and seeming disorientated for a while


Fake pissed pants feeling
Definitely had this often, usually the wet sensation is all over though like I'm lying in a bath or a fully submerged in a water of the perfect temperature (same as the body at 37.5c I would guess).

Closed eye phase of launch to the elf-land
Have never been propelled/pulled into 'elf-land' without CE visuals...those entities seem to always live in a space highly ornate and intensely adorned with often mechanical like surroundings and features.

Elf-land
I think what we perceive as 'elves' are a description for a multifaceted phenomenon and a variety of entities, thus there is no one place they reside...sometimes we travel to them (seemingly interrupting them on their otherwise continuous activity) and sometimes they travel to us to greet with glee, warn us to tread carefully or even block some people out.

In respect to physical sensations I might also add here:

Tapping
The sense of being 'tapped'; like someone would on your shoulder but can happen anywhere on the body.

Yoga
The impulse to move the body into certain positions and remain that way for a short period or to move through a range of postures that later appear to be either traditional or obscure yoga poses. Interesting article on this here

Mudras
More common on 5-MeO-DMT but can happen on n-n as well, where the hands unconsciously form traditional Mudra shapes; like thumb and forefinger together and other fingers pointing up...or even just the palms falling open in a kind of 'receiving' or 'gratitude' gesture

My experience was really strange, the eagles flying below the ceiling were a true hallucination, they looked 3 dimensional but made of light. I couldn't believe what I was witnessing.
I think it must be the LSD + DMT combination that made it possible.

I think that I should go into more detail about "spikiness", I had to invent a word to describe the sensation.
I usually feel it after consuming DMT (by all 3 methods) when the spinning fractals appear in my perception, it is one of the first signs the DMT is working.
You've probably experienced static shocks before, they can be quite painful sometimes, the sensation I'm trying to describe feels like multiple, small static shocks, starting at my hands and feet then working it's way around the rest of my body. It eventually fades as I am drawn deeper into psychedelia. The vibrations/humming/buzzing takes over as the dominant sensation afterwards.

I would probably call that sensation 'tingling' and have definitely experienced it (albeit in a calmer more pleasant manner by the sounds of it). I've had that 'multiple-point' spikiness from cactus though.

In terms of 'holographic too, I do remember one time being 'commanded' by a voice to 'stand up' (which is rare for me deep in a session- and as I stood up, I became surrounded by a rectangular glass panel (like being inside an upside down swimming pool with transparent sides or a fish bowl) with very human like beings on the other side off the 'glass', This glass looked and felt 'holographic' yet almost watery like- translucent, fluid but crystaline and permeable.

These folks on the other side (the Blue woman, an older shaman type guy, a child and some other less notable randoms) were passing me gifts through this barrier - (which I normally always say no to as there is always an implicit bargain of which your end is never disclosed up front). So as soon as I say 'no thank you'... the gift appears in my hands - or on/in my body as if I was always meant to have it and then immediately the meaning of it becomes clear

I can relate to this post! Experienced a sensation that felt like something was rubbing the back of my neck and up and down my spine. I had the sense that something was behind me and opened my eyes and turned around to look behind my self. I saw reality splitting and half of my vision was a crystalline reality made of purples greens and light blues translucent light filtering through smoke and flowing over every surface. A woman radiated a clear green light clothed in a smokey haze reached out to me and wrapped her arms around my neck. I turned and looked down and let the geometric lights filter slowly away. With eyes half open I turned around hoping to see something to explain the experience I just had but the only thing in the room with me were three flowering cannabis plants.

I have also just recently became aware of a sensation that I also have while sleeping. I became aware post breakthrough while coming down that I was furiously sucking on the side of my mouth and tongue. I could not stop and was alarmed but figured the effect would pass and it did. My wife has told me that I do this in my sleep as well. My children also do this during sleep. (I'm sure this is due to nursing when they were just infants) This is curious to me because of Stan Grof's theories regarding the prenatal birth matrices. It would be interested to know if anybody else experiences something similar.
