Plants and substances good for health

Hi,

I have been thinking about "soup is basically witchcraft - its basically making a potion". Which came to me as weirdly putting me on some kind of way... When sick you eat a chicken stock, makes you feel better - I have been thinking for some time - to dive in recipes and devise, or at least find some which will be the best for treating colds or flus. Keep it as an family thing after.

Then when buying bay leaf plant - supposed to protect against evil? and I like an idea of having nice fresh bay leaf. I came upon, or started thinking more about recipes - with connection to book Lifespan by David Sinclair. Idea is to change up, diet, recipes and basically add things. I like the idea of having things to cook where I plan my ingredients to reap most benefits possible.

My question would be, what are the things you take or would consider taking/eating to improve health and lifespan? Ideal answer would be with why exactly. (I am planning on making some lists/tables of things)

for example currently I am eating some raw cacao... :)

Hello luv! What a wonderful topic!

The recipes sound wonderful. In many cultures women pass down impressive, healthy, beautiful, tasty recipes for health and happiness across generations.😄

In herbalist culture, healing is most often a slow process. Eating healthy for long periods of time will help your body build up a resilience to flus and such! That way you don't need a very reactive acute treatment, but rather, you are always more ready to handle a flu. This is called "slow healing", and idea from herbalism.

what are the things you take or would consider taking/eating to improve health and lifespan? Ideal answer would be with why exactly.
All natural vegan diet, preferably very raw and fresh, with some wonderful healthy spices, and filtered warm water in a ceramic cup 😍 (with no salt, refined sugar, flour, or drugs(psychedelics and healthy vegan foods okay))
Why? well, it's just refreshing to eat and be that way first of all. It also helps you clarify and process your emotions. It literally stabilizes the energy levels of your body. It protects you from toxin exposure as well, which we are inundated with these days, and avoiding of which is absolutely key in a healthy diet and protects the beauty of Mother Earth.

It's a big topic. Nutrition is connected to how your body also builds itself up, and burns energy, so it's connected to your lifestyle and needs. Your physical activity will bring a different person to your relationship with food. Maybe you need more protein, or maybe you need more immune support, idk! What you do and who you are influences what is groovy for you.

I have a lot of fun in the kitchen too! I prepare everything by hand. I love to cook! I just add whatever spices I am inspired too and see what happens. It's a very engaging process 😄 The more I trip also, the more I directly, emotionally and psychically can feel the food. Preparing and Eating healthy food has become both a necessity and joy of mine. I love to get wild raspberries when they are out in the summer, but I don't know much about foraging or growing food yet :)

I mostly agree with this but I eat meat, and I don't recommend to people to stop - unless they know what they are doing. Most people do not know, don't have an slightest idea... One of my exes got some issues just by being vegetarian (iodine deficiency caused by soybean products... which caused thyroid issues). This would became me raving easily. I like the idea of carnivore diet like Paul Saladino does. But I am not planning on going that way unless forced to by something.

I would say we were hunter gatherers. We have been that way for long time. I think there is beauty in that that we should stick to... (this could be long so lets leave it)

<3 fresh, cutting out sugar, thinking about flour - about the extent I can and will/should go

I cook, I like to and have been told that I am great at it. I don't do it enough thou.

My experiences are partially responsible for me thinking about food more, my relationship with it and things that I should consider for long term wellbeing.

Well, well, well...

you have to do tomatoes, that is not negotiable... store bought taste like disappointment... when you get them to ripen properly, its insane <3
also physalis is fine, and you can get strawberries which will produce permanently (unless its freezing)... fig trees in containers are also a thing... or blueberries... lot of things can be put in containers... look into it - you will get some things for real cheap when they are small - just have to wait bit longer

I have planted mango - but that is just my craziness - it will take 10 years and I am gonna need heated greenhouse... (I like my crazy, some people do some don't :ROFLMAO: )

When starting this thread, I have been expecting more like recommendations:
turmeric ?
bay leaf ?

what else and why?

got any recipes?

Foraging, eh? I eat tons of stinging nettles and ground elder (goutweed, Aegpodium podagraria) in the spring. The flower buds of this latter one, lightly sauted in butter, are an absolute treat on a par with asparagus, while the young leaves pair very well with nettle shoots in a soup. Fill it out with cream and potatoes, season with a twist of pepper. I'm already looking forward to the rejuvenating effects of this one in a couple of months.

Mushrooms/fungi like shiitake, lion's mane and the various types of oyster mushroom have diverse range of health benefits. Some of them are moderately easy to cultivate.

It's a broad-ranging question with a lot of answers that are dependant on the person concerned.

Staying out of the glyphosate-drenched industrial wheat hellhole is essential too.

There is a 'potion' called Sananga, made from the plant Tabernathe Undulata. It's administered to the eyes and burns like crazy - dripping 'battery acid' into your eyes is a good way to describe it. They say the more painful the experience, the more healing needs to be done. Supposed to help with clarity, 'inner guidance' but also apparently very good for the eyes. It has antibacterial and some other beneficial properties, able to mitigate or treat various eye issues. At times I felt like it did greatly improve my eyesight, the first time I took it it felt like it was like having razor sharp night vision all over again, for a long drive I did. Then on a separate occasion, i felt like my eyesight was exactly the same. But I've had times on Acid (and I was on acid then) where i felt my eyesight just wasn't that sharp.

Contrary to what I've read about it having 'antibacterial' and some other "anti-" (anti inflammatory, antiviral, don't quote me, I'd have to look it up again) properties, I heard it doesn't work on a physical level but moreso an energetic level. I heard the recommended 'dieta' for it is to give it like 21 days. I went for double that... my intention was to help me get my cannabis use under control. But the whole time I was continually using cannabis, and sort of felt despondent because "it didn't really help." However after a couple more months, something shifted in my life and I've been off the weed train for a good while now, getting more clear headed every day. It's not the first time that I've disembarked the weed train so I've had some practise but it does feel like the Sananga has helped on a deep level to help strengthen the resolve.

I also returned to my sittings with the Sananga. There where times after administering it it was so unbearable that it felt insane to be doing it, and a huge resistance to the experience was felt, like it was too much. But after the burning subsided (which it does after about 5 minutes) there is always a great calm, and indeed it's a great precursor to doing DMT or Changa, the calm is completely tangible and it's like if I just made it through that, I can make it through anything. 🤪 Sleep is generally great afterwards, it's a bit of a 'reset' i feel for the nervous system someone described Iboga as being a reset for the CNS, and I feel this has similar properties, they are botanically related.

I had a very in-depth video I watched some time ago where some guy went over a very detailed rundown of the whole Sanaga usage ritual, but after searching for a good 25 minutes now I can't find that video, there seems to be hundreds of videos on the subject. One of the takeaways that I remember him saying was to give the Sananga some space, i.e. sit with it for a good 45 minutes at least (even after the burning has worn off.) Also to communicate with the Sananga before sitting with it, like have a chat with it as if it were a person... May seem a bit strange but from what he was saying it helps solidify your intentions, hopes etc. out of the experience and it seems to have worked for me.

I'll leave this link on the subject in case if anyone is interested:

Some sananga threads here:
Search: sananga

Sananga was recomended to me in one of my other threads with relation to some eye issues. I got my hands on some, and have been administering it for a few days, before sleep. The pain is intense and interesting, first time was kind of rough.

With regards to adding herbs, one of the things I am currently thinking, is baking some cookies with long shelf life - using turmeric, and other things in them to allow for daily consummation of some things with convenience. There will be need to get better idea about desirable spices and herbs beforehand.

This all seems as a long term project - and only to look at Stephen Harrod Buhner books will require a lot of time.

I used sananga too. It was a few years ago and I used it for a month. It didn't burn that much, like lemon juice in the eyes maybe, but after the first times you kinda get used to it. My sananga was labeled as "medium strength" though.

I don't know if the effects I felt were from the sananga because I also used to take weed, changa and hape in that period, so... But at night I remember closing my eyes and having colorful visions. And it was a very transformative period for me, but again it was probably because of the changa or the sinergistic action of all those plants.

Sananga drops sold as low-medium-high strength in most places now.
I did a 14-day course with a low strength variety, and it burnt just a little.
My vision improved a bit (especially night vision), but the impact was not very apparent beyond that.
Dreams on the other hand became more vivid and with certain themes that rarely come up otherwise.
I got a slight stimulation effect too and couldn't go to bed until 2 am.

Some mornings during this protocol were very clear and fresh. I remember this state only from childhood.
It's a good medicine, but one needs time with it to build a relationship.

My question would be, what are the things you take or would consider taking/eating to improve health and lifespan? Ideal answer would be with why exactly. (I am planning on making some lists/tables of things)
It's hard for me to make a list and I'm too afraid to give the wrong advice, but generally speaking about plants I would focus on the ones rich in antiinflammatory and antioxidant compounds. There are many plant sources.
For example flavonoids, found mostly in fruits (especially berries and red-/purple-colored fruits), herbs (such as parsley, thyme and oregano), tea and cocoa, and other sources.
Turmeric is another good source of anti-inflammatory compounds even if they're not flavonoids. Also cloves. Probably many other spices.
Then other anti-inflammatory compounds are omega-3 fatty acids (ALA, EPA and DHA), which are also essential nutrients. EPA and DHA are the most readily available and found in marine algae. ALA, part of which is converted to EPA and DHA in the body, is found mostly in flaxseeds and chia seeds, walnuts and hemp seeds. Omega-6 fats (found in vegetable oils) are also beneficial but it's important to keep a good ratio of omega-3 / omega-6 fatty acids in the diet so not consuming too many omega-6 sources compared to omega-3 sources (eg too much vegetable oil for example in processed and fried foods, and too little omega-3).
Unsaturated fats in general, not just omega-3 and omega-6 but also monounsaturated fats (found in olive oil, avocado and nuts) are beneficial also because they help raising HDL cholesterol levels and lower LDL cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is also reduced by plant sterols found in vegetable oils, nuts, legumes, whole grains.
Fiber is also very important for gut health and for metabolism in general but most plant foods are fiber-rich.

I don't know about supplements because in some instances they could be useless or there could be the risk of taking too much of something.

i was reading the article
The sananga eye drops used most popularly today is prepared in the tradition of the Matsés tribe with the species Tabernaemontana undulata (called becchete in the local language). People describe the effects as comparable to the entheogenic qualities of ibogaine but less intense.
i wonder if someone else from this forum can confirm this. i definitely felt entheogenic effects during the period in which i applied sananga, but i downplayed sananga's role because every report i read spoke of feeling very subtle effects or none

i don't know if maybe it's worth to create another thread since i think sananga is out of the scope of Traged's original post

sananga is out of the scope of Traged's original post
well, its kind of out of scope of this post... I use it right now, I bought it after we discussed it in post about healing my eyes...

I am interested in herbs, plants ,supplements - whatever to improve long term health, reverse damage, help with healing...

I am thinking about turmeric cookies for a few days now... basically I want to improve diet and intake of "good" compounds in planned manner, with next to no effort :)

Turmeric's active compounds are fat soluble, presumably you know that. Mixing it into the fat before making the cookies may help to optimise absorption.

It also bears mentioning that excessive use of turmeric has been linked with liver failure in a few cases. Check the literature for the actual level of causality, and what may constitute an unsafe amount. It could be that use of black pepper/piperine for increasing bioavailability may also be implicated in toxic reactions, I'd have to check this for myself as well.

I am not considering consuming insane amounts. To fuck up on something like that is not a sign of intellect (I heard story about a guy who died by carrot juice...).

I will look up and think even about short bursts spaced some time, or long-term use of low doses. In some way, it sounds to me that the second one might be better, I will have to do some research and think about the evolutional pressure and consequences... or maybe "Evolutional customs" - that sounds weird. Basically I have been thinking about the way we evolved, and what ways might help our bodies and allow them work the best.

Do research on “turmeric lead poisoning” first.
Basically, farmers add lead to make it a richer color.
It's a sad thing all around with Indian spices.
Try to buy certified organic at the very least.

I think that the thing is that there is no stand-alone “solution.” Food and health are correlated but it’s not that eating all the herbs with certain set of positive qualities is going to make the difference. The best approach to a healthy diet is to eat a variety of nutrient-dense foods, with an emphasis on fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and whole grains, and occasional meat, fish, and cheese (for mental health). This ensures a diverse intake of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, and healthy fats, in short balance and moderation is key. Also I agree that when possible it’s best to eat organic food but it’s not always possible to do so.
To fuck up on
