How do I actually contribute to building a quantum computer by playing the Quantum Moves game?

Every time you play one of the games in the QComp lab or the Beat AI lab, we are providing new ways of performing calculations on a quantum computer. Your mouse movements are in fact simulations of the controlled trajectories of the optical tweezers that quantum physics researchers have to do in the real quantum lab. To gain even a better understanding of how you contribute to building a quantum computer, watch Jacob in this video.

What are the scientific goals for the Quantum Moves game and what have you already obtained?

The main scientific goal of the game is to build a large, robust and fast quantum computer. That is why we need players around the world like you to help us achieve great results. Besides that, we have created the “Beat the AI” lab, which is in fact a scientific challenge additional to the one of building a quantum computer. “Beat the AI” is our attempt to prove to the scientific community and the entire world that players are in fact better and faster at solving various complex problems than a computer. We are interested in finding out not only whether the players can outperform the computers, but also how large a fraction of the players can do it. So, it is not only about you being on the top of the leaderboard, but it is also how many times you are playing a certain game that makes the difference. So far the results are extremely promising: it looks like you are much better than the computer at finding the right answers in the shortest time, but we still need evidence to support our thesis. So, we at the CODER team encourage you once again to go and play as many of the “Beat the AI” lab games and keep getting better and better.
