Psychological manipulation of reality

Migrated topic.

Ok, we can all agree that the way we think manipulates the way we see correct?

I.E. people who think they are fat, but are rather quite skinny etc,,,

There is some evidence now that thoughts can alter your DNA, I've only heard small amounts on this, and do not take my word for its accuracy.

But here is something I cam across on mushrooms that tweaked with me a bit:

Can your psychology, change your appearance to others, in a physical way? Just how much can you manipulate your own and other's psychology?

What I'm getting at is: If you become a very confident person, excercise, and eat healthy, but were born with (by societies standards) an ugly face, can you physically change your appearance to others?

I've heard many stories of "The ugly kid" in highschool becomeing a beautiful or handsome man or woman, respectively - my question is, did psychological factors have anything to do with that? Could these results come along from purely psychological emotions & perceptions?

It is a fact that an ugly personality will sometimes result in an ugly appearance, I'm sure some of you have experience with this. But I wonder if this can carry over into physical manifestation?

Thoughts?

The key to this idea is perception. The way you perceive things and your perception of other's perceptions of you. When it comes down to it, you make yourself who you want to be, as long as you believe it. Of course it's a lot deeper than that, your physical appearance can't be altered by thoughts, only you make yourself ugly, if that's what you choose to be. But yes, thoughts have a profound effect on your mind and can alter DNA, I've researched a bit of that, too. This reminds me of the book, The Secret, you should look into that. Thoughts create reality.

Sounds like you would be interested in Bruce Lipton's The Biology of Belief, great introduction to thoughts interacting with DNA. I certainly believe that our "energetic" charisma has a huge effect on others perceptions of us, and that it mostly comes from our out-of-conscious beliefs. Our bodies also have a much greater range than we normally accept, and we can break down body image and rebuild it. Most of those "beliefs" live in the musculature though, so it takes working with the body to create those transformations.

SWIM worked a lot with ketamine for about 3 months and thought she had made huge changes in her life. Then the reality she fabricated collided with external reality, particularly that of the body. She came to the conclusion that ketamine can work miracles, but if the soil of the body hasn't been worked, the changes will not take root.

Yes, yes I do agree - you cannot simply think yourself into good healthy, shape! Both your books seem to cover the exact topic I am talking about :).

I do love the reality that psychological perception controls reality, we have control of the external world by manipulating the internal, very odd it is. However, there are limits, but... are there really?

That's the million dollar question, isn't it!

Gurdjieff conceived of what he called a "kundabuffer," which higher beings installed in humanity to control their powers until they had learned self-responsibility (my interpretation of his concept, YMMV). I think that a lot of traits often considered negative now (tribalism, scarcity thinking, punishment,.) acted as training wheels, until we learned to balance ourselves in the world without them. One of my biggest takeaways from Nietzsche's Genealogy of Morals

Our thoughts and who we are as people definitely shape our experience of our reality. I think if you are a happy, healthy person on the inside and if you radiate positivity people will be more drawn to you.

I don't think it has much to do with someones external physical qualities at all. All faces that have a smile look better and are more inviting to people... A positive, healthy, warm and open person draws in people like moths to a flame...

reminds me of when i used to do tai chi - my instructor was chinese and said that "from practice ones energy/chi/life force is strengthened - it is easy to see the state of ones energy physically - one with a strong energy is beautiful - as their skin glows and the positivity comes from their eyes."

i think thoughts do create our reality and psychological manipulation of reality is a truth of life .....all that exists today in this human world (cars, effiel tower, skscrapers , jets and all of human creation ) were the thoughts of its creators , clearly people like edison , shakespeare , wright brothers thought these things into existence
coming from my own experience as an artist , my artwork has always affected my reality sometimes for good sometime not so good , i belive action is the greater level of thought , that is if you think a thought over and over again you do something about it and that changes your reality for its more virtual than we are ready to believe
i can be wrong however this is what i believe
Quote: " the world is made up of words and if you know the words the world is made of you can make of it what you wish " - Terrence Mckenna

I believe this. but i think alot of it is to do with how you percieve yourself to be, but then this also effects what sort of personality you have and will effect the way others see you too.

I can't read this topic without feeling the incredible urge to use the word psychokinesis, which is the manipulation of the external world using only thoughts. I know it hasn't been mentioned yet, but it is essentially the same thing; using intangible thoughts to make very real changes in your world.

Here is my theory. The brain controls all the functions of the human body, as well as acting as the seat of conscious. Any function that your brain performs has already been preprogrammed in your DNA over several million years of evolution. Another thing to note is specific areas of the brain have specific functions. You can chew your food because you have a part of your brain that is designed to force your jaw to open and close repeatedly, based on coded information from your genome.

Knowing all this, do we, human beings, have the capability of manipulating our realities with mere thoughts? I ask, do we have the proper equipment to do so? Do we have specialized parts of the brain that allow for that specific task? Even more perplexing, if we don't have the proper tools (Brain parts) that would allow for mental control of reality, is it possible to acquire them?

These are all rhetorical questions; however, they do raise very good points. Species progress, from the lowliest bacterium to the most complex organisms like human beings. It may be possible that we may one day evolve into creatures that DO possess that ability. Maybe one day, people will grow a part of their brain that actually allows them to control the universe. However, until then, just keep in mind that it will never happen unless we have the the balls to actually dare to dream of this stuff and pursue it.

I did this seminar awhile ago where some of these similar ideas were discussed. Even though they didn't talk how thoughts change DNA, the whole conversation was about how we interact with the thoughts we have about everything. Or we believe that reality is exactly how we perceive it. In the seminar, I had an oppertunity to "question reality" and see what new ways of doing things or interacting with people open up when you can let go of your "truth" about everything.

For example, something happened at work with your boss and he yells at you, you could perceive your boss as mean or not liking you. And from that moment forward you interact with him as though he doesn't like you, but that isn't the "truth" in fact you may never know the truth. And once you can let go of your perception you can make up something else, like, he is very stressed out or he really care a lot about the job getting done. Now that you make up a new story about why he did what he did you can interact with that new story instead of the old story, he doesn't like you, and it will give you new actions to interact with him.

Because the ultimate truth is things happen because they happen. People do the things they do just because they did the things the did. And everything else you or I have made up.

Being aware of the ability gives us the power to intentionally make up anything we want to make up. What gives us that power is language. Nothing happens until someone used language, either in thoughts or words. This is what makes humans so unique. How a family is is just a conversation, how society is is just a conversation. What is great about that is anyone can start changing the conversation about it and not buying into the old story about it. For example, Martin Luther King or Gandhi.
