Pulling a lot of fat

Migrated topic.

Doing a STB with Naptha- first two pulls have been yellowish colored naptha

Evaporated to be left with brownish waxy substance which smells like SPICE

Is there something I am doing that could cause all of the fat? Previous STB attempts (a while ago) yielded almost pure spice no problem.

I'm using a turkey baster and not getting any of the black gunk into the baster when I aspirate.

I'm going to ReXtal but I just would like to remove that step if possible.

Well, it's the mimosa that is the cause of the fats. Different MHRBs batches may have different amounts of fats and lipids.

You cannot avoid those yellow fats without recrystallisation. I cannot see why you'd like to avoid this step! You can also do A/B and defat prior to basifying, but this is more effort than going STB and doing the Re-X

Did you do a free precip? I never evaporate, so I dunno about this, but after 20+ extractions on 4 -5 batches of bark.

Also I have noticed heat increases oils and shit in pulls. So avoid heat too, best I can advise.

Subsequent pulls have yielded less fats.

I let the emulsion sit overnight and it separated much more readily than over the course of a couple hours.
The naptha layer seemed less cloudy, perhaps some fats had been emulsified in the naptha layer during previous pulls.

I can never get my crystals to stick to the sides of the glass (pyrex pie pan or pint jar) so I have been doin the evap. Once I get a larger amount of spice I may do a precipitation on a super-saturated solution.

Your naptha layer should seperate very easily on the first 2 pulls. Your solution may not be basic enough. 1g sodium hydroxide per 1g powdered root bark. when i start my extraction after mixing, then sitting the soluition for 3 hours. I add naptha, roll around for a few minutes and the layers sepearte pretty quickly. Usually no longer than 5 minutes, i repeat another to times the remove the naptha. From adding naptha to taking the first pull is usualy done by 30 minutes.

Adding some salt can help with emulsions or adding more sodium hydroxide, i add a little extra sodium hydroxide just as a safe measure.

Ive never had a problem with crystals sticking to the glass. within an hour, my naptha is cloudy, after 3-4 hours, crystals are forming and on the glass. within 12 hours, my glass jar is covered. Solvent gets poured off and im left with a 1/2 pint jar thats covered no only on the bottom but up the sides too (100g root bark)

How cold is your freezer? the colder the better.

It could just be a poor batch of rootbark. With high quality root bark i have been getting atleast 1% yeilds and have seen others get upto 2%

Ive only evaporated a smalll amount of left over naptha to see what happened and was left with some very clean almost clear shards of crystals.
