does anybody ever feel like they are "in" their body as opposed to "being" their body?

Yes definitely. Sometimes, on mushrooms in particular, I often feel like I'm 'in' my head, looking out... Weird 8)

Definately while coming down from vaporized DMT. Great way of putting it.
It manifests for me in that movement is reduced to "the speed of nerve transmission." If I want to move my hand, I have to look at it and consciously will it to move. Normally (I believe) movement is at the "speed of thought," i.e. the un/sub/conscious are well integrated with the conscious being like bubbles on top of a tar pit (the bubbles are part of hte pit, unified with it and made out of tar) and thus, the nerve impulse to move my hand is already to my wrist by the time the CONSCIOUS thought/intention to move my hand has entered my conscious mind. Difficult to describe.
But, yes, it does feel like being "in" the body rather than "being" the body.
