Recently I found a piece of art that fascinated me beyond words. It has become my new profile picture, and I wanted to share it with you. It was made by Pablo Carlos Budassi in 2012 and refined and reworked multiple times before it became the glorious masterpiece that it is today.

The Sun is put at the center of the map to illustrate the Solar System more accurately, and using the radial logarithmic scale the whole rest of the observable universe was mapped in a sphere that has the Sun as its center.

Naturally, the human mind is wholly incapable of grasping the monumental scale of the Universe, yet when you put our own little star, which is just one of trillions out there, in the center of it all, it gives you that sense of awe and inspiration - the privilege that we have to be right here, at this moment, embracing all of this wonder and beauty that defies the words of even our most prominent and gifted poets.

There's a lot to be grateful for in life, but this is always up there on my personal list.

If you're interested in how it was made and what its contents are, you can check out this video, as well as the main map page from Pablo's own website:

According to them, the next step in the evolution of this is making it 3D, which would be probably one of the wildest things you can explore in VR. When this becomes reality, I'll buy a VR headset just for that (well, that and the VR fractal masterpieces of Julius Horsthuis).
