After chatting in the chatroom I thought id share my delicious recipe for lentil dahl with everyone. Thought it would be cool to put recipes up as everyone here likes to experiment with different things and everyone could learn, so heres my dahl recipe:

You will need:

1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
1 cup of red lentils
1 large onion
1 tin of tomatoes
1 or 2 chillis
4-6 cloves of garlic
an inch or so of ginger
1-2 cloves
1-2 cardomans
cinnamon stick
bay leaves
powdered spics: turmeric cumin and garam masala
fresh coriander

Add oil to a pan and add the pepper seeds and heat till they start popping. Then add your chopped chillis ginger and garlic and fry till brown. add cardomens,cloves,bay leaves and cinnamon stick and mix

Add onions and brown. When doing this boil the lentils in water for twenty minutes till cooked, could do this when you start.

add powdered spices, maybe a half teaspoon of each, maybe less, depending on taste. mix and simmer onions for a couple of minutes then add lentils and mix for another 5 minutes or so. Add tomatoes last, i like to also add a little squirt of tomatoe sauce and tomatoe puree at this stage, then simmer for 30 mins or so. 5 minutes before its ready add a bunch of fresh coriander.

This is really a generic curry recipe and you can add the same formula to anything you want, dhals a good place to learn because its so cheap and you can afford to make mistakes, good luck!

Back to the Toko to get the ingredients. Most of it I already bought yesterday.

One question though: what type of cardoman is needed here? The big one or the green one?
 
Rice and beans in a crock pot. This recipe changed my life.

Tablespoon olive oil into the crock pot, mix in 1 cup of rice and stir the oil into the rice.
drain and rinse 1 can of black beans and one can of pinto beans and add those
one tablespoon of onion flakes
1/2 tablespoon of iodized salt

cook on high for 3 hours then turn to medium for half hour then eat it

2 days worth of food.
 
Sounds good jumiem. Thats the good thing about the dahl too you can make a big massive pot for pennies once you have all the spices, plus its full of protein.
 
Probably this weekend (on sunday) I can try that curry recipe.


Since I'm a master at making pancakes (I can flip two pancakes at the same time using both hands) I present to you my famous pancake recipe (for two persons):

* 375g of flour (bio stuff is the best)
* 3 eggs
* snuff of salt
* 1 liter milk
* 100g butter

Creating the mixture:
1. Put the 375g flour in a bowl
2. Add the eggs (without the shell of course)
3. Add a snuff of salt
4. Add milk while stirring
5. Stir until smooth
6. Melt the butter
7. Add melted butter while stirring
8. Stir until smooth
9. Put a towel over the bowl and let it rest for half an hour

Baking the pancakes:
1. Take your favo frying pan
2. Add a small piece of butter
3. Heat up really good until the butter turn slightly brown (most mistakes are made by not letting the pan get up to heat)
4. Add mixture to pan (enough for just a small layer over the whole bottom, do this quick)
5. If the top of the mixture in the pan isn't liquid anymore it's time to turn, shake to loosen from the bottom of the pan and with a graceful swoop turn the pancake around
6. When the (now) bottom side is lightly brown your pancake is ready
7. Repeat from 4. until all mixture is gone
