Reed Canary Grass

Migrated topic.

This is a very common grass found all over the world that abundantly grows in mass amounts in wetlands. I have a book "Heavenly Highs" that says Reed Canary Grass is a very common grass which contains sufficient amounts of DMT and says the grass is perfectly fine to just dry and smoke. I'm trying to see if I can find maybe a more efficient way to get the DimTri out. Do you think some sort of soaking and heating/brewing? The book says that a lot of brews contain 5-meo-DMT as well which may overpower and there's actually only 1%> - about 3% in them-depending, of course.

So what I guess I'm asking is; would it be fine you think to just dry some reed canary grass, grind it and burn it? If there is a better method, please inform me.

Drying it and smoking it wouldn't work. There's simply no way to injest a fully active dose before it starts getting metabolized away.

Phalaris extractions, and its use as a DMT source for ayahuasca analogs, was covered extensively in the first few volumes of the Entheogen Review, if you care to track those down (I can provide specifc volume/page references if you like). The consensus seemed to be that using a wheat juice extractor and using the juice without purification was the easiest thing to do, as I recall.

There are a few problems with it of course. I believe the reed canary grasses are highly variable in their chemotype; some contain lots of psychoactive tryptamines, others contain none at all.

The biggest problem is that reed canary grass is also supposed to contain gramine, a toxic alkaloid. Due to its structural similarity to DMT [indole-3-(N,N-dimethyl)ethylamine vs. indole-3-(N,N-dimethyl)methylamine], it would be virtually impossible to seperate them by common extraction techniques. Bottom line: I wouldn't risk smoking toxic chemicals; there are better DMT sources.

I have a crop of P.Brachystachys I'm going to start harvesting in the next couple of weeks; think I should have a reasonable ammount of material to have a play with. I shall post my findings. I'm intrigued by the verypositive things I've read over at Edot, but I'll believe it when I see it... Still, hasn't cost me a lot in time and money and they do seem to bring the insects into the garden:)

Did you ever come across this Entropymancer?

I actually haven't paid too much attention to phalaris as a DMT source. It's entirely possible that people have identified strains without toxic alkaloids, as there have been plenty of people interested in phalaris as a DMT source over the years. I'd be interested if someone could confirm this... phalaris does have the advantage of being easy to grow abundantly if you're in the right climate for it.

Ok, wow, haha. That's good to know, the book doesn't inform you of that. It also doesn't suggest using any of the psychedelic substances discussed in the book [legal issues I'm sure], but it gives you all the know how and what have you. From the sounds of it, It would be easier to just go grab some DimTri from my source. I just wanted to see if there was a possibility that I may have found an easy practically free source, you know?

Thank you sir/ma'am

Well done Forthripley! I am looking forward to hearing about your experiaments. It seams totally rediculous that no body here knows about Brachystachys. I'm travelling so its hard for me but I thought someone would have got there.
