It is possible for cubes to grow outdoors in the high rockies. I have seen them in a friends garden when old played out beds were used for garden compost and some very robust volunteers made their appearance between the zucchini.

As to whether they can weather over a winter and produce viable feral offspring for multiple years, that is another matter.
