Safety of MAOI + DMT combination

Hi everyone,

I posted this in the Changa section but didn't get a response, so I've reposted this in a more appropriate subforum.

I haven't read up as much on changa as I have on DMT, but it really does sound wonderful. I was reading about MAOI interactions on Wikipedia and was wondering if there is a health risk mixing MAOIs with 1) DMT and 2) herbal supplements such as ginseng and gingko biloba.

Now as far as I know, changa usually includes an MAOI plant. So is it dangerous as it says on Wikipedia?

Also, should I look into this further if I take ginseng or gingko biloba before trying changa? Would I be putting myself at risk?

Ginseng and Ginkgo biloba should be perfectly fine with a dose of Changa (vaporized RIMA's or MAOI's).

I would be careful mixing a strong, stimulating ginseng, in a high dose, with oral harmalas. That's me. I don't take ginseng anyway though, so...take it for what you will. .....Edit: Also, I'd probably say the same thing for a strong dose of Ginkgo bilboa, but that's me...also. Gingko biloba speeds of the transmission of neural stuffs and increases blood flow, so these effects may be desirable or not, with Ayahuasca type preparations....still, vaporized harmalas should be fine.

But always be read up on what you need to know, before you do it. 😉 Good watchin' out!

Ginkgo should also not be used by people who are taking certain types of antidepressants (monoamine oxidase inhibitors and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

Thats from wiki. I was going to use ayauasca with ginko one time, and was strongly advised not to.
Im not sure how much risk there is with changa.

I remember reading that extracts of ginkgo have MAOI properties of both types A+B in rats.Hence its possible you may get more out of the DMT in your changa than you bargained for when preparing it if youve been taking ginkgo.

The active substances in gingko are simmilar to the ones in green tea and rodiola. Those two do indeed have MAOI properties, but they are very weak MAOI's. I don't think they would be dangerous in normal amounts. I have more than once drunk green tea before and after ayahuasca sessions and not ever felt any negative effect from it.I have also taken small amounts of gingko with ayahuasca to fight the vasoconstriction of DMT. Never in large amounts though.

Ginseng is a totally different compound. Eveningglory recently posted a raport on taking large doses of ginseng (not in conjunction with MAOI though). He sayd that it has a strong mood enhancing effect. Did sound interesting. But to be honest i have no idea what ginseng actually does, what receptors it affects or whether it has a MAOI effect, etc.

Yeah, but I'm sure that it would be alright with a changa blend, even if there's a little extra harmalas, as long as the gingko dosage isn't incredibly high, but in the daily tonic dosage range.

I take a blend of gingko, bacopa, gotu kola, shankapushpi and ashwagandha every day, and I wouldn't have any hesitation about taking changa with these. I also take caapi every day, so I'm already taking MAOI's/RIMA's with ginkgo, plus others. I also take Mucuna daily too. All this works fine together for me. Everyone is different though. Use your own caution and judgment/intuition.

If I were to smoke dmt with this, as a Changa blend, I would have a great time I'm sure. Cosmic...Intense...but great.

Intellect promoting herbs would probably only help me integrate afterward.

I hope this helps in some way.
