Sexual Abstinence Period For Ayahuasca

SWIM was wondering how the Nexus feels on one of the aya traditions of no sex 3 days before and 3 days after taking ayahuasca.
Is it really very important or just an additional precaution that may or may not enhance your individual healing process?
For SWIM, stopping for 3 days in the past before and after taking ayahuasca was not possible, but now as he recently has some potential pharma trips lined up, he's curious how beneficial a week can be in relation to the trip(s), - He's thinking that it's more of a case specific scenerio to not so exhaust your sexual energy mentally and physically too close before and after the experience, instead of an arbitrary 6 days. What's SWIY's experiences?
 
personally I think its a cultural Taboo..some cultures hold that position, other dont..you have ancient european witches who prefer to do their ceremonies with psychoactive plants while engaging in rituals involving anal sex magic, and you have other tribes over here who preach abstainence..here in the west, all best are off..find your own way..

Let me ask this..would you concider viewing mushrooms the same way? the same rules apply to sex in the mazaetc ritual use of mushrooms and salvia as well..

If I was taking mushrooms or drinking with one of those tribes, sure id abide to their taboo, becasue I am an anthropologist who is facinated with other cultures and wants to understand their world view, so id do like them in that context..but at the same time..I have my own ways..so here, at home..no I dont worry about it. Ive had great sex on mushrooms, mystical even..cosmic..though I doubt the mazatecs would term it that way.

Just wondering, why anal sex? Was anal sex somehow preferable or more magical than vaginal or oral? Why anal? Just curious.
 
lol..Im not 100% sure why..it had something to do with activating energy that way, and how readily the psychoactive lubricants they used were absorbed.

Oh, so the brew was taken anally, and the penis was used as an applicator. That's a great idea! Sounds like a good time.
 
As fractal mentioned, it depends a lot, different cultures and people will have different perspectives about sex and sacred plants. I do not think that sex is inherently bad (or good) in relation to psychedelics. All this 'energy' talk is so subjective anyways. I think it has a lot to do with your intentions, how you view sex in general, how your culture thinks of sex, how sex is manifested through you, etc.

I think people that might be very compulsive about sex, that have a lot of 'carnal-only' and egotistical self-centered sex, could definitely benefit from taking a break and using entheogens to reflect on it. But I also can't see how it would be any problem for one to have, say, a deep bonding experience through sex with a significant other, right before or after (or even during, in low doses) of ayahuasca.

Personally I have noticed no difference in my ayahuasca experiences with (voluntary or by chance) or without abstinence, I dont consider that at all an issue. Find what works for yourself :)
 
The only difference SWIM has noticed is that when he abstains from sex, his ayahuasca visions are more sexual. I guess all the built up sexual tension comes out in the visions. Other than that, he’s noticed no other difference.

Do you think negativity is the way to get answers? Its not, and its not the reason for me answering you.

I also think its a taboo but abstinence reservers certain kinds of energys psychedelics can draw on.

If I was positive, I wouldn't have a question :d. I was kind of looking for more personal accounts of responses, instead of sort of repeating my thoughts.. I knew some more seasoned trippers could provide better insight, but I guess it's a really not that big of a deal here in the West. FWIW my latest pharma trip I abstained before and after (not exactly 6 total days).. Personally it's hard for me say if it affected the trip in a better or worse way, but going through (a challenge) like that proved helpful in it of itself, and maybe that's where the "taboo" stemmed from.
 
I think if anything, abstaining from sex can transmute the sexual energy into healing energy. I think this is the main purpose of abstaining.

It isn't necessary, and is definitely more of a taboo though in my opinion.
 
Apparently, sex (and salt, oil, spice, dramatic temperature changes) is like putting your energy body through a tornado. When your energy body is calm and clear, it is easier for Mama to read and work on. This is the word on the street.

Some people with other words on other streets disagree. :p

I would say, find what works for you. The intention of dedication to the medicine, in my experience, seems more important than following a specific set of rules for a specific culture in a specific age in a specific part of the globe. It's important to be educated, but we are also taking the medicine in a different setting, perhaps with a slightly different set of challenges to meet (e.g., our responsibility in healing the planet will be activated differently than an indigenous person living in the rainforest, though all messages are equally valid, we all have a part to play).

Just my thoughts.

To get the best answer, ask Mama herself. She will direct you. Maybe controlling your sexual energy is paramount to your work at the moment, or maybe she would rather you quit coffee, or perform more acts of selfless love. Everything is dynamic. We are organic, flowing pieces of infinity.

Sometimes sex can be profoundly healing. Sometimes people need to emotionally connect and be touched.
 
I disagree with a lot of this. For me sex is invigorating, energizing and doesn't drain me at all. In fact, I feel more energetic, more alive, and healthier after having sex. If I don't have sex I feel sluggish, slow, not quite myself. For me it’s a great way to invigorate my body. So I totally don’t understand people saying that it drains them. It does the exact opposite for me.

Keep in mind that I typically have sex for about 4 hours. Anything less than 2 hours just isn’t satisfying. So I think I’m a little different than the norm. After 4 hours of sex, I feel much more alive, alert, my mind is sharper. It goes against everything everyone is saying in this thread.

“Normal”, both kinds of oral, then “normal” again, then oral again, etc. You just change positions every 30 minutes or so.

On psychedelics, it isn't too terribly hard for SWIM to last 4 hours.. just because it feels so good..

I personally believe that while in the middle of a healing process, it does help to be celibate. The orgasm does release endorphins, this is true, but having an orgasm releases your "chi" as some people call it. This is one of the main reasons why in tantra, you may not have an orgasm for up to a month, sometimes even more, depending on how devoted to the practice you are.

Also.. keep in mind that "kundalini" energy can supposedly be released by the orgasm.
