Hey guys,

I loves myself some good Shpongle. Especially the older albums like Tales of the Inexpressible and Nothing Lasts are amongst my favorites.
Now I saw that they have been re-released as remastered edition. Do you guys know how much of a difference this makes? I only have CD and FLAC, so all the LP stuff is lost on me. Is it worth getting the remastered versions when I already have the original CDs?

I doubt you will notice much if any difference. Some people just love vinyl, and with the insanely detailed art put into this new Nothing Lasts vinyl (there is a vid on fb of what it looks like), it is a pretty cool collectible. But very pricey too

I'm no expert but I guess it depends on how good the remastering is? It's not like say the Pink Floyd albums that were made decades ago and to which remastering made a significant impact on the overall feel; different remasters also again produced different feels.

But it's not automatically like a remaster = improvement, especially given Shpongle isn't that old anyway and I think Posford would have put a lot of care into it originally.

Some Floyd remasters I didn't like, others I did. The thing that makes the most difference is actual quality.. FLAC is a must.

Yes, that's exactly it. If I got a remaster from a decades-old album, I'd be all over it. But the Tales of the Inexpressible was released in 2001.

And yes, Bandcamp streams both albums, but in 128kbit mp3 . So I'd have to buy the FLAC to compare. IT's only 7 Pounds, but I guess I'll stick with the CD I got until I read some raving reviews :)

i got the Flac version of the original and the new re-mastered version of "nothing lasts..."

to be honest, my first impression was that the re-mastered sounds significantly worse!

if you can remember there used to be "radio edits" of songs when you buy singles.
those radio edits usually had a compressed sound so they sounded better on lower quality devices, this is my first impression of the re-mastered albums.

i have not time yet to compare each song side by side but will do so in the future
