Storage/Oxidation - is there a perfect way?

Hey, lately ive been wondering what would be the best approach to store all those precious materials in a way that keeps them healthy for a long time.

Since I seem to have some collector fetish with these things(some might know this..), my collection of psychedelic compounds keeps growing..
The thing Im worried about is the right storage.
From the factors that matter, temperature and lightning are the most easy to control..
However the thing Im worried about most is oxygen.

At the moment Im most worried about my plant materials like MHRB and ACRB and also some Changa.

I know some things shouldnt rest around for too long, but I dont want to rush and rather take my time.

So as far the options I came up with where..
-Vakuuming(is it worth it?
-inserting carbon dioxide(does it really work/with a sodastream?)

How do you keep your things from oxidizing?

Your bark will store for years if away from light & oxygen, vacuum couldn't hurt but it prob not worth the effort if you have bulk.

As for pure compounds, storing freebase is useless any more than a couple months. I came back after 4 weeks holiday and my white freebase had turned to orange goo in a container.

This can be avoided by converting to fumarate salt and this stores like ironman anywhere, anytime, any place... like a boss.

I have also heard of ppl on here using nitrogen to replace oxygen/carbon diox. I stick mine airtight in the ground incase of very unlikely orwellian raid.

Well but the thing is, unless you dont vakuum seal or replace with carbon dioxide, oxygen will always be present.

And actually I dont want to just go with the notion that freebase is useless after a few months.. There has to be a way to store these things properly for a long time.

Maybe just vakuum seal some stuff and put it in the freezer!

I have been thinking/working on this same problem recently. What I've come up with so far is to salt all of my FB first of all so it won't oxidize on me. For my Acrb and caapi vine I broke it up into somewhat smaller pieces, vacuum - sealed it and put it in the freezer. I have read about many people using 5-10 year old bark and it being perfectly fine even when it is not stored well so I feel that this is sufficient.

What I haven't figured out is how to store my 10 or so changa mixes that I really don't want to go bad. Not sure what to do with those considering I only smoke it about every two weeks at most and it's upwards of 20 grams all together.

Under inert gas (argon, nitrogen, helium,.. etc), in a light resistant container in cool temperatures.

Step 1: remove oxygen.

As the FAQ says, even if it's been for years improperly stored, DMT and most alkaloids we deal with here should be totally fine to smoke. I've smoked DMT that was in a drawer in a tropical place stored for years and it was fine.

At most what happens is that it gets darker, more waxy or more gooey, but it's still perfectly active. It seems that some oxidation might happen but DMT N-Oxide is also active, plus from my preliminary tests it seems that even if it seems mostly oxidized, its still for the most part a superficial oxidation and most DMT is still intact.

Lastly, if you anyways want to totally prevent that oxidation, just keep it in the freezer , no need to vacuum, just a well closed bag, it will stay just as it is.

If you want to go overboard you could vacuum seal and/or use some CO2 to fill your container with it. Since CO2 is heavier than air, you can add some sodium bicarb to vinegar in a container, and then 'pour' the invisible CO2 that formed in that container into your container which has your alkaloids, and then close it.

The way I would do it, if I had a vakuum sealer and that big amount of Changa, I would just vakuum seal the bigger part of the Changa and leave a smaller amount for use unsealed.
Once this is gone just cut open the big batch, take a healthy amount out and reseal.

Ive read that several times, however my experience differs..
The first Changa batch I ever had, after half a year, had noticeable different effects. It certainly felt different, then when it was "fresh". Friends of mine reported the same with different batches.

CO2 and water form carbonic acid, I'd avoid this unless your stuff was very dry.

Some (not me) report using a small piece of burning charcoal to remove the oxygen from the storage container. This leaves a CO2/nitrogen atmosphere. Obviously you have to be sensible when going about this...

Argon is heavier than air also, and, unlike CO2, definitely unreactive. It's not difficult to get hold of argon, IME. Helium is also fairly easy to obtain but of course it's lighter than air which may be less helpful.

The charcoal sounds like a good way to change the vessels atmosphere.

Actually I have one of these at home SodaStream
They are usually used to add CO2 to water but should work the same for any storage cointainer.
I will try to put some CO2 into a jar with this.
