storing or extracting fresh cubes?

Migrated topic.

Ive read at alot places that cubensis mushrooms lose over 20% or the potency when dried since they have such a mixed alkaloid content.

Is there any way to go past this since i don´t feel like loosing 20% of my yield since i probably won´t be eating all my shrooms at once.

I know ethanol is a good way to extract but i have no way of obtaining such a high proof alcohol, the best i could do is 40% vodka, is it possible to get rid of the water from this?

Wet weight potency is hard to measure exactly, because the water weight varies. I've never given the potency loss much consideration, because drying them is the only thing you can do without eating them right away. To extract with an alcohol, you would need to dry them anyway.

40% vodka has a lot of water in it, it would really need to be distilled. Dried epsom salts would work to some extent, but it seems like you would need to use an awful lot of it, and I'm not sure I would want it dissolved in an extract that I plan on drinking.

For long term storage I dry, powder, and cap, then store in the freezer. Caps are the only way I will take them, I despise teas and the straight fruits make me gag. The caps can even make me gag, since I know what is in them. The only downside with caps is that they take longer to come on, and you might need a little more than you would with a fast-absorbing liquid. I like them with maois, so potency and short-lasting effects are not really issues.

I'd suggest you extract your fresh mushroom with lemon juice freshly pressed.
Fot that you just powder your mushroom and mix with lemon juice for an hour or two and mixing up well from time to time.
Then you filter the solid and discard them and you recolt your now greyish juice.
You can freeze in ice-cube container being careful knowing now how much mushroom fresh by gram was extracted to make one ice cube (i.e. 5 grams fresh per ice cubes).
Then when you want your shrooms, you just mix those cubes with sparkling water and a little agave syrup to make psilimonade !

Now, I never personnally kept fresh one this way, but I know the lemon tek works well for those.

I will def try a lemon tek on some of the fresh ones, although i won´t discard the solids, ill probably eat them after to be sure nothing is lost :p

I will also pick a few shrooms that are the same size/weight and eat one fresh and dry the otherone to make a good comparision.

Oh I'd like to know cause in my understanding, honey is very efficient with dried specimens, I would be wary of fresh molding in honey.
ANyone did the trick with FRESH mushrooms and Honey ?

If you mean the blue honey thing i think that is a waste of shrooms. I prefer dried, chopped up ones in honey and that is perfect for tea. Just a tad bitter.

That lemon TEK with ice cubes sounds cool! thanks for the tip, rOm

Blue honey tek is nothing more than putting fresh mushrooms in honey. I've read a lot of arguments against it claiming the bluing is a sign of breakdown. It seems like there would be very poor permeability in fresh shrooms. In my experience drying is ALWAYS the first step in preservation of fungi and if you want to stretch your shrooms the lemon tek, or natural maoi are other options (not for newer travelers.)

dry without heat, then immerse entirely in a honey and oxygen free environment.

the bluing is a sign of enzymatic breakdown, not psilocin or psilocybin

Thanks for clarifying the scientific term for it mew :) My understanding is that when fresh they are very susceptible to enzymatic breakdown?
