SWIM's doing an extraction but has no access to a sep funnel help!

I know you can use a turkey baster or a siphon device with the tubing and rod, while this is all well and good, do these things come in HDPE plastic? I don't think a turkey baster would be reinforced against anything other than temperature and SWIM doesnt fancy getting any plastic into the spice. I see these things referred to casually in teks but it doesn't seem legit? Am I worrying to much or what?

I've also heard getting a glass turkey baster is good, if I can't find that can I use a plastic one? thanks!

A turkey baster will work in cases where a separatory funnel is unavailable, although this may not be the most preferred alternative in such instances. Personally, I have never owned a separatory funnel simply because I can't get past paying $70 for such a simple device (and trust me, $ certainly isn't an issue). I have found, after multiple bulk extractions, that a 20-30cc syringe, minus the needle (can be purchased at most horse or feed stores for $1-$2 apiece), works best for me. Others swear by, for instance, a baby nasal aspirator, which works as well. For the most part, be creative & you will surely find an instrument that suits your personal separatory needs :)

SWIM never used a separatory funnel for MHRB extraction and never felt it is needed.. He first crudely separate (even taking a little bit of the basified liquid together) with turkey baster/pipette from main container into long thin container. Then he can more accurately separate the two layers with a pipette, and the last bit that he cant accuratelu pull he throws back in for the next pull

Yes, peoples fear of high ph breaking glass from what ive seen is overly cautious, NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!! But at the same time, unless your doing stb with a ph of 14 and leaving it in the glass for many hours or days, then I wouldnt worry to much about it. Never hurts to keep an eye out for etching and cracks though, like I said overly cautious never hurts.

Personally the people ive talked to say sep funnels are just a waste of money, thats just an opinion though.
