Something I wrote about 5 years ago after a prolonged journey on spice. I call it the logical conclusion. This is only the first part. Showing the path that we are on. I will post the last part at a later time.

---------------------

Technology is the new path of evolution for the human race. This article will guide you thru the future as it can be logically predicted. As with many futurist projections some will come true some we cannot even imagine. With the past and logical analysis of trends we can however see the trends and rate of growth in most of the primary technology industries. This allows us to predict the growth of technology with a fair bit of accuracy. This along with the need for innovations give us a clear picture of what 'could' happen in the future. As with any article predicting the future please keep in mind that what I forecast here is not guaranteed to happen I think the future will be much more spectacular. What I seek to do here is give you a insight into what your life as a 75 yr. old cold be

First let's look at the trends in technology. Many old timers will tell you they were born in a entirely different world than the one you live in. For those who are older you see this clearly. The young however tend to have a hard time understanding this. It's difficult for youth to fathom a world without computers and cell phones . These are recent innovations from only a couple decades ago and as you can see in 20 years the cell phone has gone from a huge machine to a slim looking star trek looking device.

In the span of one normal human life we have gone to horse and buggy to space travel. The first gasoline powered auto was invented in 1893 with a total of 4 horse power. In 1969 we sent our first humans to the moon. 76 years is all it took. If you look at this in perspective you see that in this short time mankind made a major leap in technology. Nearly every field of science has made leaps like this in recent history. We have learn to clone mammals something that was considered impossible science fiction a few decades before it occurred. We have developed telescopes that let us see galaxies millions of light years away. We have gotten our first looks at the foundation of the universe the atom and we have learned much about the fundamental workings of our bodies and the world they inhabit.

As each innovation occurs it in itself speeds up the innovations to come. When computers were made publicly available the research and discoveries took a quantum leap forward. Machines that could process and analyze information for us. Automatically and usually perfectly. The internet made the world a small place. A quick search on your favorite search engine can bring just about any topic you can imagine right to your house. Libraries would be the size of entire cities to store the information that is at your fingertips.

The advances in storage capacity and software has allowed us to create archives of books that would fill entire college universities on something as small as a toaster. Music storage devices went from bulky compact disk players of the mid 1980's capable of storing 11 songs to tiny machines 1/8 th size that could every song ever recorded.

These examples should give you a general idea of how technology advances in time and it should also give you a idea of why. As technology advances that technology speeds up the advancement of more technology. It is called exponential growth. The most popular theory of this is moores law which has held true for decades and is projected to hold true for many more decades.

The most promising field of technology that is on the horizon if not in your house already is nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is defined as technology relating to the nano scale. A nanometer is roughly 10 hydrogen atoms wide. Well beyond the ability for any optical microscope to see. Special electron microscopes are needed to see at this level because light's wavelength is larger than 1 nanometer across. Now that's small. This technology is already being used fervently in many fields most popularly in the making of computer processors and memory devices.

The laws of physics do not apply at this level however. A new set of rules has to be applied this is known as quantum physics.

War is a curious character in the technology field while there have been major advances in beneficial technology resulting from war, the Nuclear technology (atomic bomb) being the most notable. It also destroys civilization thus setting back the technology advances of that civilization. It's a double edged sword. In the future we will use nuclear technology more and more as our oil reserves diminish and this wouldn't have happened as quickly without world war 2 but also japan is a major technology innovator and if their country hadnt been so devastated by the war would they have made more discoveries? An old forest must be burned to open up the land for a new forest. The devistation in japan allowed it to rebuild to it's modern splendor. War and global conflict does promote governments to spend more into science it also destroys much of that as well.

Religion plays a bizarre role in the advancement of technology. Especially in certain fields faith can inhibit technological advancement but on the same hand it also gives us a moral compass so as to not abuse this technology. You wouldn't want 500 clones of yourself would you? I wouldn't, especially if they are as messy as me.

Every aspect has a little give and take to the field of technology and although unrelated directly to that field these have to be taken into consideration when ........

we attempt to look into the future. Society is the sole determining factor of what we develop and we have to keep that in mind when we decide to put the pieces together. Humans fight and they are a spiritual species. It's inevitable that both will directly effect what we do in the future just as it has in the past.

You have probably heard it a thousand times, there are more scientist alive now than in the history of time combined. But also there are more tools and resources for these scientists. Who knows how much more productive albert einstein could have been if he had a laptop PC and a internet connection. But this technological advancement has served also to distract us we spend inordinate amounts of time playing video games, Watching cable TV and surfing the internet.

Our advancement in technology is directly related to our willingness to commit resources to this advancement. If the entire planet would join together with the single purpose of advancing our species in all the fields of science for a period of 50 years we could absolutely attain some almost impossible goals within most of our lifetimes. Dreaming of heaven after our deaths would no longer be necessary we have the resources and the manpower to create paradise here on earth. Life extension is not by any means impossible. Extending life would lead to reversing the aging process as our greatest minds would life much longer and be able to serve our species for decades longer. Within this time we could learn to reverse the aging process. And thus eventually leading to immortality. While this may seem impossible that you can live forever many advancements in this field has been made and in the future many more will be. We spend more money on health care and biotechnology than anything else . Nanotechnology furthers this advancement in many way's cells themselves are nothing more than nano-machines and as we learn how they work and more importantly how they mess up we gain the ability to fix these issues.

The advent of the internet has spawned a revolution much the same way the printing press did in the past. Before the printing press existed knowledge and books were a rare and valuable commodity. Afterward anyone could own a book and anyone could learn about any topic. The internet has taken this ability to the next level. Many universities have online classes and lectures. You can get a college degree without even leaving your house. You can see the latest research and discoveries instantly within days or even hours of it happening. This is a vital tool for scientists but not only they benefit from the world wide web. As we all know money is the foundation for innovation. Everyone wants the newest coolest high tech gadget. When the human race desires technology it forces major corporations to invest more money into research to stay competitive. This further speeds up the technological innovation process.

However there are 3 major powers pushing our technological evolution. Military, entertainment, and medical discoveries. Governments spend more money on their military than anything else and the most advanced military usually wins. Entertainment is the one resource humans as a whole spend more money on than anything else. We like to have our televisions our internet computers and our video games. As we all know the medical industry too is big business in both the fields of medication and surgery. This field is advancing more than any other currently. and nanotechnology plays a vital role in all of these fields. Medical discoveries stemming from nano materials have brought amazing possibility to us. Using nano-tubes and buckyballs to deliver vital payloads to cancer cells without damaging healthy cells is currently being researched. This field look very promising imagine a drug that could cure a disease without any side effects. Imagine a surgery for cancer that doesn't require cutting the body. These are not only possible they are in their trial stages as I wrote this . Many of the fantasies of our favorite science fiction show or book are coming to reality this very moment many are in the infant stages of their development but once the initial research has begun it's only a matter of time before these things become commonplace and time is speeding up in the technology fields.

The ability to manipulate the fundamental fabric of our universe will give us power un imaginable in the future. Everything in our reality is made up of 2 things matter and light. Even our physical bodies are made up of matter. As we learn to manipulate and control the atom we gain the ability to control matter. And since everything is made of matter with the exception of light this means that literally everything in the universe could foreseeably be within our grasp to control.

What we think is impossible today will be commonplace tomorrow. If you had gone back in time and told people in the middle ages of a television where thru a magic glass you could see events happening thousands of miles away they would have laughed and regarded you as a fool. Today this is something that is in every household in the nation. In a few centuries when we have gained a much stronger understanding of quantum physics we will have the ability to work around the rules of conventional physics to accomplish things that seem down right impossible to logical minds. What these could be is not something I nor anyone could accurately measure. The problem with looking into the distant future is that one major innovation, or lack of one can drastically alter everything.

We can however take a quite probable look into the next few decades and come away with a fair bit of confidence with our assessment. Many futurist look at the current trends and past occurrences to see what lies just ahead. It's not prophecy it's just logical guesswork. But even the best laid predictions cannot be 100% infallible. Reality oftentimes seems much more fantastic than our imagination allows us to speculate.

The human mind is made up of 2 major parts the primal beast and the intelligent logic. For many of us one is more dominant than the other. The primal beast like instinct kept our ancestors alive for 1,000's of years. The need to dominate the need to reproduce. These things were ingrained into the human mind to ensure our species would survive and all living creatures inherently have this aspect.

The intelligent mind however is really only something humans possess. This gives rise to creativity, curiosity and logical reasoning.
