I just want to say thank you to all the members who post here at the Nexus:)

My first attempts at extracting spice have been successful thanks to your sharing.

I have today, sampled my product for the very first time in a small test dose using my regular pot pipe with a piece of screen folded into a pyramid holding a pinch of spice. My scales are not sensitive enough to register the small amount but I'm guessing about 10 mg. After holding the smoke for about 30 seconds, I felt a strong body rush, followed by some light CEV, open eyes gave enhanced colours and there was a definite shock of trymptamine energy shooting up my spine... it worked:lol:

This sample was from from a n-heptane pull from a stb experiment which was washed with FASW and then rebased with NaOH, pulled with isopropanol and which evaporated leaving a hard light tan waxy spice.

My experiment with a naphtha pull which was evaporated in a food dehydrator at 54 degrees celcius ( for several days) left a supersaturated solution which was just checked and found to contain lots of huge transparent white crystals.
I am so happy I had to tell you guys and say thanks. You guys are the best!

It's a great feeling having your first extraction succeed isn't it! Only when you finally sample the finished goods do you allow yourself to believe that it actually worked :d

The food dehydrator is a cool idea. I wanted to try this but couldn't find one with a variable temperature. I was concerned about the risks of oxidation / detonation. I loath evaporation and naphtha takes forever. Or at least I thought so until I tried to evap water . . . :shock:

Its great to see people give thanks for what they have learnt from the Nexus. One thing I've noticed is that the most knowledgeable people here are often those who keep trying and failing and then learning from their mistakes. They get it right and then freely share their findings with all of us.

I'm currently in the final stage of Jorkest's D-Limonene and Fumaric Acid Approach. I have a good few grams of beautiful crumbly, dry, waxy tan material. Just as the Tek promised! I have no chemical understanding and could never have produced this myself!

Just curious- was your STB experiment your own design or did you follow a tech here?

I definately have to agree on loathing the evap and I'm hoping the FASW will be the answer to that.
In writing up the details of these experiments, it helped alot in pointing out my mistakes; like where did my spice disappear in the first experiment... it seems these write-ups help not only others but oneself as well:lol:

Experiment 1: CASA/FASA ( failed due to lack of skill )

40 grams of MHRB covered with CASA (5g of citric acid per 100ml acetone), 3 washes using 100 ml in total over a period of about 8 hours. My filtering was not sufficient and my washes contained a considerable amount of fine particles of MHRB.

I continued anyway and added FASA ( contents of one fumaric acid capsule(500 mg) in dry acetone (25 ml) and left overnight) Some undisolved fumaric acid remained at the bottom of my jar).

A precipitate formed which was allowed to settle overnight.( and mix with the fine particles of MHRB).
This was filtered but the amount captured by the filter was miniscule compared to the apparent amount while in the jar. After the acetone evaporated from the filter the entire filter was soaked in some 50 ml of water to dissove the dmt-fumerate. This solution was basified with NaOH solution resulting in a tiny amount of (probably) dmt freebase. The amount recovered was too small to try out :(

Conclusion: this technique will require more practice and greater care and attention to the details provided by 69ron.


Experiment 2: (DryTek STB) (aborted then mutated) ( small sucess)

50 grams of powered MHRB was mixed with 12.5 grams of aquarium grade calcium hydroxide.(per 69ron's tek) added enough water to make a thick cookie dough consistancy. the dough became redulant with an strong earthy spice smell.

Now 69ron's tek calls for a d-limonene pull but I've been unable to find a local source of this interesting solvent, but all I had was acetone which had had its water removed with baked epsom salts (anhydrous magnesium sulphate). This prompted me to obtain more solvents; n-heptane was found at the art store.

At this point after my failure with the first experiment, which was started at the same time, I was beginning to overanalyze every step and decide to change to a standard STB by adding water and NaOH to my dough. The heptane was used for several pulls; shaking and removing the top layer with a large syringe. Needless to say, the syringe caused much frustration.

Jorkest's FASW tek was tried to pull the freebase from the heptane pulls followed by rebasing and a 99% isopropanol pull and evaporation, yielding a small amount of light tan wax which hardened after scraping.

Experiment 3: ( further pulls using naphtha) ( sucess)

Four more pulls were performed on the previous STB jar which were evaporated for several days in a food dehydrator at 54 degrees celcius, reducing the volume to about a tenth of its original volume. This was left to sit in my unheated garage for a couple of days after which numerous, 3mm across, transparent white crystals were discovered, much to my joy.

Conclusion Naphtha pulls the spice much more effectively than the heptane.

My next experiment has been started using 100 g MHRB, 100 g NaOH and 1700 ml water kept at 54 degrees C in the food dehydrator during layer separation and naphtha pulls. The pulls were decanted into one collection jar which is now awaiting my building / obtaining some kind of separatory funnel to remove the small amount of sludge remaing in the jar.

A FASW attempt will be made on a sample of this and if unsuccessful the naphtha will be evaporated.

Wow! you don’t give up do you?

You obviously have some understanding of the chemistry behind the teks. I am just learning this. The teks are fine until you run into a problem. Anything unexpected and you're stuck unless you can understand the processes involved and think around the problems. It's cool that you’ve got as far as you have without asking many questions!

I'm surprised that you found naphtha pulls the spice much more effectively than the heptane. I think that FASW will help your evap times with the dehydrator. The fumerate should be fine at those temperatures. I have to resort to an oven thermometer and open oven door!

I've just gotten a whopping 20g of DMT fumarate from my first 2 ltr limonene pull on 1kg MHRB. I attempted to freebase half of this but got only 5g DMT freebase. Next I'll take 2.5g of this DMT freebase and attempt to isolate as much pure DMT as poss. via a naphtha recrystalisation. From there I'll be able to calculate my total yield from Jorkest's limonene FASW tek. Also, I'll be able to try something else which I haven’t done before which is to isolate the DMT n-oxide and attempt to convert back NN-DMT using 69ron's DMT N-Oxide to Freebase DMT Tek.

All good fun. Except the real reason I've immersed myself in this Tek is that my last journey scared the shit out of me and so I'm postponing going back :lol:

My friend, I know exactly what you mean. Even though my experience includes dozens of lsd and mushroom trips, several in heroic doses, my brief experience with that little sample of spice has left me wary. Immediately I heard a voice say, "cut down on the beer drinking, or else!"

I will be exercising and meditating for a while before attempting my next taste. Happily, this will give me time to finish designing and building a vapourizer which is based on an automotive cigaratte lighter. It's apparent that loss of body control is going to be an issue, and I don't want to deal with a hot pipe and lighter.

Good luck with your n-oxide reduction, it's definately on my to do list.
