[I tend to leave out elaborations and erroneous information from my comments in hopes of getting to the point. I think this attitude comes from my years of training as a chemist.]

I have been smoking pot for over a decade, happily, and during that time I have tried many different experiences and alternative methods of achieving a glorious euphoria. A few months ago, a friend of mine introduced me to DMT. Before that point, I had never heard of it. It was a great experience, but I have not found it again, since. I remember my trips being very vivid and visual, causing me to hallucinate in ways I had only imagined LSD would do. Needless to say, being a chemist who loves the concept of perfecting a basic extraction, I came to the web to learn more about it.

The DMT-Nexus was the first website of its kind to show up for me, and I have found an enormous amount of information on this page that has influenced the entire direction I was planning to take this endeavor. Most importantly, the portion of the Attitude section that teaches selling and buying DMT is bad and counter-productive to the aims of the DMT and Entheogenic community, and that sharing is caring, both reminded me about the way I was originally brought up in the counter-culture; as a loving free-hippie that dresses for the professional community, but shares when he can and provides for the little guy when he's in need.

I just want to thank this site and whoever started it for bringing my head back into the right game, and I hope I can learn enough to trust the methodology behind my eventual extraction technique and learn more about DMT itself and other entheogens along the way.

Also, as I have not yet completed an mhrb extraction, I would really appreciate the names of some of the better/best teks out there, especially if you have used them yourself with good results. I know there are tons of teks online in various sources, but it's always best to start research with reliable information and I find the information I've gained from this website to be better than those that I have found on most others.

Wow. I have so many questions for a chemist, but none appropriate for the internet.

I used Noman's Tek twice and it produced excellent results both times. Everyone says use sodium carbonate (I think that's right) for neutralizing any NaOH in the DMT, but I've been using Ammonia, which advised against in the Tek itself nowadays. Now that I think of it, Ammonia is also a base, so I don't actually know what its original purpose was. So, yeah (derp)... I'll definitely stop doing that. You're a chemist so you probably have better containers than I do, but one of my biggest problems is DMT goo stuck to containers, some of which goes to waste if I can't scrape it all out. What makes things worse is that I somehow end up with naptha-DMT solution in many different containers. Higher surface area means higher loss of goo, which is something I will correct in my next extraction. The recrystallization helps tremendously in separating pure crystals from more slag (that's the word!), but I just know there's a few hits of DMT in that slag. If you're planning on eating the finished product (or if you have a really good vaporization device), I wouldn't do a crystallization.

Anyways, I'm certainly not an expert. Good luck on your extraction. If I can do it, then you I'm sure you won't have any problems.

I haven't checked out Noman's Tek yet, but it will be the next one I look into. I'm glad you had such great results with it. Did you weigh your dry product? I'm curious about your yield, but not of the slag. Ammonia's rough, and it is a base, but it's a different type of base, so if it has been working, that may be why. I'm not sure if you're removing all of the ammonia, so I'd go back to doing it the normal way even though it's working. You could end up vaping something that could destroy your throat. (No fun.)

The slag, though. Surface area is almost always the key, and remember that you're not supposed to finish with the slag. You want purity more than yield ALWAYS when it comes to something you'll be injesting. That said, keep the slag together as well as you can, sometimes you can use a little bit of extra liquid solvent to rinse viscous liquids from one container to the next if you're running the risk of losing a large amount of product. So while you're not yet trying to recrystallize the final product, keep that gooey slag together. When evaporating, a larger surface area is key, but when you're recrystallizing, it's not necessary.

The recrystallization process is a purification process. The DMT molecules want to arrange themselves in a certain way to form a solid crystalline structure, but there are a lot of other molecules in the way, so we heat up the solution or excite the molecules and slowly cool them down to allow crystals to form. Assuming the Tek is correct, which is probably a good assumption since so many people use it, the crystals formed will be pure DMT, and that's all you want to ingest. Vaporizing or smoking the leftover stuff might make your head float a little, but it will not be worth it for all of the contaminants it contains. Throw it away. You have to when you recrystallize anything, so don't think of it as a loss, just think of it as a necessary part of the process if you want badass results.
