I'm not a "spiritual person" either, but I do think of spirit in terms of science. Gravity for instance is science we can partially understand, but does that mean we can't attribute this universal force to what we call spirit? I look at spiritual issues from a stand point that they are merely science that we don't yet understand. actually, the more we learn about science, getting into quantum mechanics and string theory, we realize that reality is what your conscious mind makes it, and physical matter is nothing but vibrations of pure energy. Now, what's more spiritual than that?

concerning reality and our conscious mind, there have been endless debates about this. psychologically speaking YOUR reality is made up of YOUR conscious mind. physical reality however as far as quantum physics goes doesn't really have anything to say about consciousness. This is something that is misconstrued by people that want to interpret in this spiritual fashion. It may or may not be true in the end, but as far as I understand the message of such experiments as the double slit, there is no mentioning of consciousness, neither implied nor explicit. All it states is that interaction changes the state of the system. Since every observation needs some kind of interaction with the system it is impossible to observe a system without changing it. That's all. Now consciousness could still play some role in this whole gigantic process we call the universe, and personally I do suspect it does, but so far physics has not been able to make any statement concerning this. My suspicion is that this is like the goedelian incompleteness theorem: no way to prove it either way.

Very interesting posts. I completely agree with what you guys were stating about the spirituality vs scientific debates on here. Being a active student perusing my B.A. in Biology, I am intrigued on how DMT affects your body and mind. I grew interested about DMT after reading "The Spirit Molecule" by Dr Strassman, because it not only satisfied my scientific curiosity by providing a clinical and analytical approach to studying DMT with quality results, but that it also leaves the possibility of some sort of cosmological or spiritual "higher plane" of existence that can be unlocked by DMT itself. But, reading the session logs from that book and the posts from this website can only go so far. In order for me to understand whether a DMT experience is just a biological response of the nervous system when it reacts to psychedelic stimuli, or if it is some sort of spiritual phenomenon, I must experience it firsthand. Fortunately, I have a solid background in chemistry which should help me to perform a successful extraction. I'm currently in the process of gathering the materials I will need right now, and I will definitely post my extraction log for critique and discussion once I am done.

I think critical thinking and being rational can help a lot with both the preparation and integration of the experiences. But of course, once you take a hit from the pipe and while you're 'there', all the constructs we have established in our minds go out the window
