Most people don't like to use the volcano for spice.  I've already asked about this.  The consensus on here seems to be to use the vapor genie.  Personally, I just use a pipe with some ashes, and heat the spice from above, but never touch it with the flame.  I'm somewhat susceptible to it, but I only ever need 1 good big hit, and I'm off!  You'll get it with a bit of time and practice.
