The impact of using Iodine fortified salt upon the precipitation of harmala via a manske tek

Migrated topic.

hello everyone.

i have a interesting question i would really appreciate input on.

in the area i live in, for what ever reason, non iodine fortified salt is practically nonexistent. sure i can get it as a gourmet import but it costs some 10X the normal price.

so the question is what does the iodine in the fortified salt do to harmalas that warrants all the teks saying to only used pure salt?

i could only come up with a few answers:

1) it destabilizes/breaks down the harmalas, given iodine high solubility in water, it may be possible.

2) it precipitates out with the harmalas, in my mind unlikely given its affinity i don't know if the salt would be a stronger binder, but if it does it would not be a problem, other than giving the harmalas a slightly darker hue and adding a littler nutritional value to them.

3) it would some how bind to the harmalas and water at a stronger affinity then the salt, possibly causing the salt to precipitate over the harmala (and if it did that would be fascinating to me at least) or to prevent precipitation outright in any form.

so after working this through in my head i guess the second question after what would harmala do to a manske tek is iodine or salt more soluble in water and if its the former, is iodine soluble when in contact with harmala alkaloids (and i apologize for my poor use of chemistry lexicon, please forgive me if i made some glaring mistakes in terminology when attempting to form my questions)

it may come down to me testing this myself if i cant find an answer, but if anyone out there has any insight into this, its a odd question and the answer to this little mystery, or a lead to where to look, would be much appreciated.

thank you very much for reading, and have a great day everyone.

Im not sure chemically if theoretically a certain quantity of iodine could somehow influence the extraction. Personally I always look for pure sea salt (without added iodine) to be sure, but I can say ive used iodine-containing salt in harmala extraction and noticed no difference at all... I dont know how generalizable is that experience, how variable iodine amount in salt is in different countries, but I have a feeling it would be fine... Maybe another chem expert can give their opinion.

I would be more worried about other things such as anti-caking agents and other things added to some salt. I remember reading one anti-caking agent might react in certain extracton conditions, but I would have to go back to some sources to read what exactly was the issue.
