the weeklong drag of cannabis

I really do not like cannabis anymore. sometimes I think i do, but I really don't.

As many of you know, I quit using the stuff when I decided to turn my life around, to live in the positive
and be greatful for what I have, to really enjoy life.

So recently I decided to smoke a joint again, and I just want to highlight for everyone that
what you get is a slight buzz, a sort of cozy feeling in your head for about an hour. What you're
left with is a weeklong, or more, dragging, heavy feeling. Leading to lathargy and eventually depression.

Im not touching it, ever again.

As primarilly a non-smoker too, I don't know why I let these things creep back into my life but from now
on I am going to do whatever it takes to fully live in the clean and healthy. I just learned that nicotine
reduces appetite, stimulates metabolism and is a vasoconstrictor - BAD news for body building and building muscle!

I'm not much of a cannabis smoker at all these days. I wouldn't say I've quit as when with friends I still sometimes smoke but that's maybe once every 2-3 months. Straight cannabis just makes me feel like shit these days. Maybe a little giddy on the side, but for the most part it makes me feel ill. Words become very hard to find, which is terrible when smoking with people you don't know that well. I'm usually very perky and outgoing, always there to interject with my remarks, be they relevant or not. There are maybe 1 or 2 people I know who I can remain outgoing with no matter what my condition and they're the people I like to smoke with, though they don't smoke much these days either.

One other thing about cannabis that wasn't much of an issue when I was in my teens, but these days bothers the heck out of me, is that it really fucks up my bowel movements :( Really! To the extent that it feels like my tail bone has been poisoned until said waste is extracted. It never comes out in an orderly fashion either.

However, I do really like quality hash when used in moderation. I can't get it often, but that doesn't bother me as I'm trying to eliminate some habits out of my life. But if I'm going out to a party I always love to have a joint on the dance floor with friends. It just reminds me of better times. Also if I can't smell good hash when I'm partying, mingling with the incense in the air, then it just isn't a party. I'd even gave up smoking hash but a few months ago I gave a friend some DMT and to repay me he gave me a nice bit of hash and it reignited my passsion for it, though I haven't smoked it since it's still something I can lick my lips thinking about. Out of all the things one can smoke, good hash is definately my favourite flavour. :)

It's annoying how everyone seems to be smoking cannabis all the time though. Up until recently I was living with two stoners and when someone passes me a spliff my reaction is to smoke it. But when I discovered DMT I'd make an effort to not partake as it ruined my trips to hyperspace, so from that day forth I try my hardest to keep a clean head. It really annoyed me when someone would offer me a spliff and I'd say "no" and they'd be "are you sure?!" like I was being really weird or something. It's second only to alcohol in that respect, where a lot of folk just assume that everyone drinks alcohol. When you don't it really blows peoples minds :)

I've recently stoped smoking weed too.

This last week I've had a few puffs and have woken up feeling hungover and lazy.

Each time I do partake, it reminds me of why I shouldn't smoke anymore.

out of solidarity and support, i cut it out for a month back in december when our brother Spiced posted that he was having a problem with it and was gonna try and abstain. well....that month has turned into 4 now and i have to say i don't see myself going back anytime soon.

cannabis was a huge ally for me for nearly 5 solid years. everyday. aaaaallll day. and then one day, it just wasn't anymore. the depression that would come on about halfway through the experience was leaving me less and less willing to seek the mild pleasure of the first half.

i used to use it without exception for racing (and anything that required extreme focus), but have found that i focus better without it now. perhpas it's work has been done with me and i no longer need the frequency cannibis vibrates at...

either way, i would certainly never speak of cannibis with anything but love and gratitude. it certainly helped me in very deep and beautiful ways. i owe a lot to it's healing energy. but when it's done, it's like anything else one would cling on to that no longer serves it. it can begin to take where once it only gave. like a relationship that has run it's course, the challenge is to have the courage and understanding to take all the good gained, have tremendous gratitude for it, then move on.

ever been in a romantic relationship that was over and done but just couldn't bring yourself to accept the fact and chose to stay in it? remember how HORRIBLE that felt?? yeah.....medicines can be exactly the same.

and who knows, after enough time apart, maybe cannibis and i can 'be friends' again and hang out from time to time.... ;)

L&G!!

I too am cutting back on my cannabis use, something I was asked once when in hyperspace was why do I do the drugs I choose to do? my answer was because I was looking for answers, spiritual guidance and of course to feel good. When I came back to, it made me think about each thing I do and why I do it, I've been cutting back on cannabis ever since because it's no longer such a good friend of mine.

Soulfood, hash is the most delightful flavor I agree 100 times over, recently though swim put a little bit of smashed flat (like a disc) of hash on top of some spicy peppermint and got delightful tastes and results! It would be a recommendation to any hash lovers out there to try!

I quite smoking weed quite some time ago. Although not for the same reasons.

Last year I met this group of people who had all just met eachother and we all had fairly similar goals in mind. Sit around, drink beers, get stoned, go home. Rinse and repeat for about 4-5 months and you could say that between four out of the five of us who were actually smoking weed, we were taking down an ounce in 2-3 days over that peroid of time.

So as you could have guess, money became a massive issue. But thanks to one of our very rich friends from saudi arabia, we always had what ever drug was needed in the house. It got very much out of control when we took the realm of pot with us to shrooms, salvia, coke, and so much alcohol we covered the basement walls in cardboard cut-outs of the brand names.

I stopped, but none of them have yet to. I'm so happy I stopped, but none of them seem to realize that they should as well. But, it's like trying to tell a cig smoker to stop smoking, only it's trying to tell alcoholics and drug addicts to stop what they are doing.

When i stopped smoking weed I actaully had read physical withdrawls..I couldnt eat, or sleep well for about a week..I felt anxious and shaky..it was horrible..I never want to smoke like that again becasue I was so addicted that it tookover everything else in my life, and I dont want to have togo through another week like that after quitting ever again..

I smoke now like one day out of the month. I find cannabis very useful when I use this way..it is very mentally psychedelic, and allows me to view things from a whole other angle..it really is a very powerful psychedelic when used very very infrequently.

Most of my friends seem addicted to it..they need it to get through the day, and freak out if they have to go a day without it..at that point to me its just like any other narcotic, and its a real turn off..

The mentality of alot of these people is like unbelievable as well..they refuse to even accept that there might be ANY negative effects or physically addictive side effects, however minor that build up after prolonged chronic use..they think that they can smoke weed while they are driving around and that it cant impare anyone..

The people that can't accept some of the truths about cannabis, like the studies that show mild physical withdrawls for a few days after cutting it out(after prolonged heavy use), and trying to stupidly argue that it should be legal to smoke and drive..that weed will cure anything and everything and we should all smoke all day etc..these people to me are the BIGGEST enemy of the cannabis legalization movement..it's rediculous..if you cant accept things for what they are and have to try to paint some other picture to try to glitter it all up you loose credability and objectivness..it;s equally as rediculous as the doctors who try to argue there is no medical value in cannabis and try to refute the evidence that it can help with cancer and tumors etc..

I haven't smoked cannabis now for 3 weeks and it's good to read this thread. It reminds me why I stopped.
Cannabis has taught me many lessons and was my ally but it's time for me to move on.
Today cannabis totally fucks up my system. If I smoke daily my life all becomes a mess and I eat shit and feel very bad physically which makes me feel bad mentally too. And I've tried to smoke only once a month or only weekends or something but it's all or nothing with me when it comes to cannabis. I'm stoned all the time. And it's starting to make me paranoid and anxious.

I think I'll brew some caapi now to aid the system cleaning itself.

I think we've agreed on this before, but what you put there is a good summary of the things I see in my friends who are full-time smokers, such that the first joint is lit at the first tea break of the working day, sometimes maybe even a wake and bake. I have no idea how people can get through the day like that, but if it is what they choose who am I to dictate how they are living? I guess it bothers me because they don't tend to socialise as much, not because they don't want to per se, but rather because, say if we are heading out for a few social drinks, they claim they have not the money, when what that really means is that they can't afford to because it would take away their weed fund, and I guess I find this disappointing because it's not the fact that they don't have bud to last them, its because they feel they need to blast all their weed as soon as possible rather than space it out a bit, so that they could have the best of both worlds.

Woe betide anyone who tries to badmouth their beloved weed though, seems they will defend it to the death, or rather to the point where they themselves realise it's not what they want anymore, and maybe that is what it takes, someones own reflections bringing them to the realization that perhaps it is not for them anymore, rather than being told (though I prefer to say Informed) as such.

I just remember when I first started smoking it would get the giggles, and generally have a good time, as it's use progressed over the months and years I came to realise that didn't happen anymore, more often than not I'd get paranoid and just not enjoy the fact that I couldn't think straight or be as coherent as I wanted to be. I'm glad I stopped smoking like that and have never looked back and have advised other people to do the same, for which when they eventually came to realise it themselves, came back and then agreed that it was the best thing they did.

These days I'll have the odd huff puff give here and there, but to be honest the strains are too strong for my liking these days, and it just sends me straight to being totally warped and spaced out. When I was in Thailand my friend acquired some lovely Thai stick, not very strong at all, and it was great to enhance the mood and atmosphere of the evening because it just hit the spot, not too strong, and you could still hold a conversation and be level headed with a feeling of mellowness. Some of my favourite memories of Thailand is sitting around listening to the sounds of the sea, amongst friends, some Thai stick being smoked, a couple of guitars and just loving life.

DMTRipper; I feel you bro.

Cannabis was my vice for so long, I used it as a mechanism to meet friends and to keep friends. After high school, that was the sort of social staple of our group. In that respect I am thankful for it because as a herb, its can be wonderful. Relaxing, enjoyable. As a medicine, it can sooth and rub away stress. I am thankful that I'd have access to it if I needed it. Remaining positive, It has been good for me in some respects, because it was what I did.

But looking at the bigger picture, I also used it to escape from reality. When things were really bad and I couldn't face the world, I'd come home and toke myself into oblivion. I am immensely thankful that I have more in my life now, more to work toward, more every day, that I am better than that old habbit. It won't destroy you, It won't make reality go away. Its better to confront your problems head on. Make something of your life. Don't be lazy! Life is more fun when you are not lazy! It makes me feel good knowing that I've moved past it, taken the good and the bad, learned what it does and what it does not, and moved on.

To anyone who Is still using it: Have the willpower. You CAN do it. Its as simple as deciding thats what you really, truely want. When it is, nothing will stand in your way. You can find that inside you, if you look. You can do it.

You will be amazed and dazzled by the long-term results. Things you're going to notice in the short term (1-2 months): Increased motivation, relationships improve, memory improves, sense of taste and smell improves, lots of things. I guarantee that your house will be tidier and cleaner. You will definately feel good waking up in the morning. You're going to be more organised, you'll probably do alot of things that you had in the back of your mind, wanted to do, but never got around to doing because it felt too much like a chore. You're going to begin to enjoy really odd things, like cleaning! this might be a new thing for you. Cleanliness is next to godliness! and there really is nothing better than a clean home.

Wish you all well.

Hahaha I was going to quote this part too. 'Cause I've had long times away from cannabis (3 years once) and reading this reminded me how much easier it was to wake up and how much more energy I had in general :) And yes how simple things in life were much more fun and interesting :)
I've been smoking a lot now the past year and I'm just realizing how bad shape I'm in after this year. I'm always tired and have little motivation to do anything. And I'm just lazy as hell. Cleaning the house is a big issue :p hehe And yes I love my house clean :) But my wife is not my maid, or so she says :p So I too have to clean :) hehe
And my memory is horrible :p

I might never smoke again. But I don't know my future. I'm just not smoking today. One day at a time :)

Cannabis is not for everybody as you all have discovered.

For me though, I love Cannabis. I use it after work in the evening when I can. It helps me de-stress and sleep. I get up refreshed and ready for the work day. I could never use it at work, it just makes the work day drag on and on and on and on ......... I hope to be able to use it every day for the rest of my life. I don't smoke it now that I have a vaporizer, so now there is not even the downside of hacking the next day and spitting up black crap. Cannabis will protect your brain from toxins such as alcohol, it will promote the growth of new brain cells, it helps to protect our bodies form cancer. I view cannabis as a vitamin as it boosts our endocannabinoid system. It is non-toxic to our bodies and does not cause any permanant changes to our bodies. I find cannabis is quite mentally psychedelic which allows me to debate my self in my mind and come up with new ideas about existence (something I think about a lot). The funny thing about cannabis is, I will never take a psychedelic drug if I am on Cannabis at the time. For me Cannabis is not a launching pad. When I use a psychedelic I have to be stone sober. I think some of the problems with some cannabis strains today is they are un-balanced. Some strains have too much THC vs CBD and the other cannabinoids. To much THC with out the balancing effects of the other cannabinoids can be an unpleasant mental experience. I have been using Cannabis since I have been 16 and I am 47 now. I took about a 8 year break as I got into guns and target shooting. (I did now want to get busted and loose my guns), but I would have never stopped if I had known the health benefits to using cannabis. Cannabis is not for youngsters as the endocannaboid system is important in brain development and heavy use of cannabis while the brain is developing can cause a drop in IQ of about 5 points. I am very pro cannabis, as you might guess from this post. Cannabis seeds are the best thing you can put in your body. The protein has all the amino acids in the perfect proportions for the human body and has tons of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. I could go on all day about Cannabis, but like I said at the beginning of my post. Cannabis is not for everybody.

To learn more about Cannabis go to www.norml.org It is worth reading up on the medicinal benefits of Cannabis.

Communicating with the ganja spirit is like communicating with any plant spirit. There is the good, and there is the bad. ( except for mescaline  ) The point is to be able to integrate the good into your life. When the negative effects begin to outweigh the positive, you're abusing the plant or you've reached a point where you are unable to positively learn from the plant spirit due to your current conscious state. You must grow/learn/change for that plant spirit to potentially become beneficial again. Abusing any plant will not lead to beneficial outcomes, and cannabis happens to be one of the hardest plants to use responsibly.

I'd love to see a source for this.

Here you go. By the way, the number from that study was 4 IQ points, not 5. The same study found that people who smoked heavily before and then stopped, had a normal IQ. This study does, however, not say anything about memory or concentration, or possible damages for older people for that matter.

points on an IQ test?..personally I think IQ tests are a load of crap.
Yeah, they absolutely are. They give no good picture of one's intelligence, it only shows a small fraction of it. Nonetheless, a drop in score on this small fraction does show something.
