Tie-dye using MHRB

The title says it all: I want to make a small batch of dye using MHRB to tie-dye a shirt or two. It seems like a clever way to carry the spirit of the spice on my person without anyone really knowing. A quiet wink to those who know.

Has anyone here done this before? I would appreciate any tips on making the dye, so as to not waste root bark unnecessarily.
A quick google found me this recipe, but a 100g of bark seems like a lot for one shirt:
100g powdered MHRB
2 TBSP Salt
1 QT of water
Boil and place cloth in water 45min to 1 hour

thanks in advance 🤍

I have 150 grams of leftover MHRB from my first extract about a week ago. I had gotten the extra MHRB just in case the extract didn't go as planned, Anyways I plan on doing the same thing, and I already have a blank white T-shirt in mind to do this.

I have found this guide I will be using that goes into extensive detail about how to do it. I will let you know how it goes upon completing it, or you can try it yourself too.

Link removed, sourcing.

Hope this helps :)

Hi Subtlevibrations!

If this can help you I recently used my leftover extraction to tan a deer skin, and I'll use it again in the future to tan animal leathers.
It came out beautiful, a bit purplish!!

What kind of tek did you use? If STB, did you add any vinegar to the basic solution before using it to tan?? I’m not super familiar with the tanning process or how it varies from regular dyeing but I would be interested to hear more.

Hi Subtlevibrations!

I used STB CYB's salt tek, neutralized soda with citric acid when tanning, in a proportion of 1:3 (soda:citric), a bit more of acid to be shure it was more acidic.

Tanning is different from dyeing in the fact that I used a raw deer skin, cleaned it and then let it in the solution for a week more or less.
I'm not expert in dyeing but I think that for the process you just have to submerge the tissue in a colored solution for a shorter amount of time without salt, and since there's no need to let the fur attached to the skin you don't need ph variations and lots of tannins.

I really like your idea of dyeing chlotes with bark! Looking forward to see the results!
