My friend found the hardest part of his extraction was sourcing the ingredients. A lot of the brand names entered were specific to N America, so he thought a UK relevant list of apparatus needed may help others that are looking to do a first time extraction in the UK. This is an edit from Nomans tek, I am sure there are many other options, but this set of kit worked just fine for my friend. No explanations on method here, there are loads of great posts for that elsewhere!
Dust mask, safety goggles and rubber gloves - all from B&Q, £1 each item.
Mimosa Hostilis root bark - mimosahostilis.co.uk, arrived less than 24hours later, yielded 0.8% of very white spice. My friend was pretty pleased for a first attempt.
A coffee grinder or heavy duty blender (one that will crush ice) - not needed as MHRB was powdered.
Mixing jar – 3L preserving jar from Partridges of Hadleigh (online) about £5. This worked really well.
Water - used tap water for mixes & distilled water for an SC wash later on - 2L for £1.50 from Tesco
Lye (granulated NaOH) - "Homecare Essentials" brand. 500g was £2 from Wilkinsons
Vinegar (for neutralizing lye spills) not sure anyone needs help with this one!
Naptha – Ronsonol lighter fluid £1.10, Tesco, lots of debate on this, but this works great.
Collection jars – Pyrex Rammekins from Tesco £2, just cover with Cling Film when freezing, works a charm and much easier to scrape than a jam jar / mason jar.
Separating apparatus – Just used an eye dropper - £1.20 ebay, may need something better if doing a big extraction
Rubber spatula - £1.50 for a pack of 5 from Wilkinsons
Very cold freezer – Bought a thermometer from Wilkinson (90p) to test the temp of freezer before trying an extraction for peace of mind.
Sodium Carbonate – Soda Crystals from Wilkinson which were 80p for more than you will ever use
The only other thing my friend did was use activated carbon for a wash as well. He only did this as he smokes roll ups and if you buy the Swan charcoal filters (in the black packaging)like he does then you have the perfect amount of activated carbon in the middle of each filter.
Hope this helps!
