UK specific materials list for Nomans Tek

My friend found the hardest part of his extraction was sourcing the ingredients. A lot of the brand names entered were specific to N America, so he thought a UK relevant list of apparatus needed may help others that are looking to do a first time extraction in the UK. This is an edit from Nomans tek, I am sure there are many other options, but this set of kit worked just fine for my friend. No explanations on method here, there are loads of great posts for that elsewhere!

Dust mask, safety goggles and rubber gloves - all from B&Q, £1 each item.

Mimosa Hostilis root bark - mimosahostilis.co.uk, arrived less than 24hours later, yielded 0.8% of very white spice. My friend was pretty pleased for a first attempt.

A coffee grinder or heavy duty blender (one that will crush ice) - not needed as MHRB was powdered.

Mixing jar – 3L preserving jar from Partridges of Hadleigh (online) about £5. This worked really well.

Water - used tap water for mixes & distilled water for an SC wash later on - 2L for £1.50 from Tesco

Lye (granulated NaOH) - "Homecare Essentials" brand. 500g was £2 from Wilkinsons

Vinegar (for neutralizing lye spills) not sure anyone needs help with this one!

Naptha – Ronsonol lighter fluid £1.10, Tesco, lots of debate on this, but this works great.

Collection jars – Pyrex Rammekins from Tesco £2, just cover with Cling Film when freezing, works a charm and much easier to scrape than a jam jar / mason jar.

Separating apparatus – Just used an eye dropper - £1.20 ebay, may need something better if doing a big extraction

Rubber spatula - £1.50 for a pack of 5 from Wilkinsons

Very cold freezer – Bought a thermometer from Wilkinson (90p) to test the temp of freezer before trying an extraction for peace of mind.

Sodium Carbonate – Soda Crystals from Wilkinson which were 80p for more than you will ever use

The only other thing my friend did was use activated carbon for a wash as well. He only did this as he smokes roll ups and if you buy the Swan charcoal filters (in the black packaging)like he does then you have the perfect amount of activated carbon in the middle of each filter.

Hope this helps!

If you need larger amounts of activated charcoal you can get it from pet shops, it's in some fish tank filter refills.

Good list, man. Ronsonol is by far the best naphtha to use in UK, as it is pretty much the only "light" naphtha available in shops. I found heptane in some random DIY shop about a month ago and when i went the other day to buy it they didn't have it anymore :( You can get it from a vendor online, but heptane seems to be really hard to find in the UK for some reason. Happy travels!

Hey cool list there

Anyone have any idea about xylene in the UK, my hardware store dudes looked at me all confused when I asked about it. I find it online, but would prefer a local store.

My friend has not done any work with xylene. The only advice I could give would be to find any similar products to your online source in B&Q (or wherever) and look up the datasheet of the product which will tell you what is in it.

Most chemicals, especially in the big hardware stores, need to have a datasheet available. I remember reading that xylene is a thinner, so if no one posts after me with a UK specific brand, you can find all the thinners or similar products in your local store and research it before making your purchase.

Don't think you should have any problems buying a product like this online though - it wouldn't be on a watch list or anything. I would imagine you might raise more suspicion asking store staff than making an anonymous online purchase!

let us know if you find it!

the above listed vendor of rootbark is very good quality. i have used with yeilds of just over 1%, i know of someone else getting upto 2% with the same rootbark using STB with a freezer that is colder than -20c.

for sodium hydroxide i use b&q's drain cleaner. its 100% sodium hydroxide crystals, thinks its a bit more expensive than £2 for 500g but works well.

Ive used lightrer fluid with good results but was annoyed at only being able to get 133ml at a time, i really need alot more and it becomes suspicious buying more than 1

Ive used b&q white spirit (turpintine substitute) which is naptha in its heavier form. I got great yeilds with this, and very clean crystals. the problem though, as becuase its heavier, more naptha sticks to the crystals after draining it off and thats enough to redisolve them once warmed up.

I solved the problem, by draining it all off then putting back into the freezer upsidedown with lid on for another 12 hoiurs. then out of the freezer upside down for 30 minutes then turned the jar the right way up and left to dry for a day. the crystals were still damp, but collecting them and spreading out on some card and putting ontop of my pc speakers sub unit where its slightly warm for another 1.2 a day dried them oiut.

if you have a fan that should dry things out quicker.

Yeah, that vendor is the only one i trust, as it all ways has good quality bark. The first extraction i ever did was with "low odor white spirit" from B&Q and it did work ok. Since it is a heavier naphtha, it makes freeze precipitating a waste of time, as hardly any crystals will form, unless you evaporate, which takes a billion years.

Ronsonol, being light naphtha, makes it so much easier to freeze precip and you get a much cleaner product. I know there are probably better solvents out there, but ronsonol is my solvent of choice. I found a stall in london which sells them at a pound each. If i get ten cans, he does it for 8 quid (works out to be just over a liter), which is a bargain in my opinion! Love to all and good luck!

Hey all :)

Really nice list OP! I would like to add that the best bark i've had by far is straight from Pedro in Brazil. It means coming through customs but I and friends get 2% yields no hassle :d

From what i gather Pedro supplies the UK site but there stuff must sit around a bit as i only ever got a 1% max yield from them..slightly confusing.

Only downside is that you can only order 500grams plus from his site and it can take 3-4weeks to arrive. On the plus side 500g's of bark should be good for 10grams of spice...that would last me years!!

Ronsonol has also been my nap of choice...i always seem to get great xtals with no need to re-x, so happy days!

Peace :d

Thats odd, on my 100g extraction of rootbark, my first pull gave me a ton of white crystals using b&q white spirit. 2nd pull again tons of crystals, `/2 white and 1/2 yellow.

Its a bit of a pain to freeze, after 24 hours, i pour of solvent, then put back in the freezer upside down to drain any remianing solvent of before drying. After its out the freezer what little solvent thats left only takes 1/2 a day to evaporate.

Im going to get a couple of tins of ronsonol to extract on the rest of the rootbark i have left, just to check it wasnt just a fluke or something.

I did have fairly decent results as well with the "low odor white spirit" when doing my first ever extraction, as heavier naphtha will actually pull more DMT out of the bark mixture, but as i mentioned before, it doesn't freeze precipitate as well as light naphtha and tends to pull extra fats. When using Ronsonol, it just seemed to make a lot more sense as to why people use it over "white spirit". You have to do a few extra pulls, with the final pulls being done with warm naphtha, but you will notice the difference in how clean the final product is even before recrystallizing. You might have to combine pulls and evap it down to a third of it's original volume, but the results are a lot better in my experience. Good luck!

Having just finished experimenting doing extractions with both of these products, my friend agrees that Ronsonol is better (in his experience) in every way other than price. The B&Q stuff does pull a lot of fats and it is very difficult to get the final product cleaned 100% as a result. It does also take ages to evap, and even with the decent method veda mentions, the results are not as good as Ronsonol.

Has anyone tried the brand xtechre lists (fiddes) vs the Ronsonol? It is a very good price vs Ronsonol, but I don't want to be stuck with 5L of the stuff if it turns out to be not as good!
