Video game as art????

Migrated topic.
totally..i try to tell this to people and they just dont get it..i think most people see ALL video games as violent shootem up games..

they just obviously havent played any of the good ones... :p
 
One of my Art profs once told me "Everything is Art. Some things are Good Art and some things are Bad Art, but everything is Art." The more literally I have learned to take his statement, the more interesting the world has become. :thumb_up:

Then again, Marcel Duchamp said "I don't believe in art. I believe in artists."
 
In my opinion, video games truly are pieces of art. Just look at Samorost, Machinarium, Child of Eden, Datura, Amnesia, etc. etc.

In all years of gaming Ive gone through the full spectrum of feelings from crying from sadness to crying from sheer happiness. They've made me turn my perspectives or opinions completely around and vice versa, so for me there is no denying that video games aren't art.

Then there are games that are full of mindless violence and war, that can hardly be considered as art, but hey, theres always two sides to the coin :)

Interesting to mix those quotes together a bit.

This is not art, this is something created by an artist.
Everything is Art.
This is art, this is created by art.

I feel video games are certainly art and on many levels. IMO the act of playing a game is also an art in itself. I think it is likely because I agree with spinCycle's provided quote of "Everything is Art."
