I wish I had a profoundly wise reply for you. In truth I can only say from my experience that the journey never ends. Just as you think you have broken through and evolved to a higher state of being you find you are not nearly as enlightened as you thought. This is why I keep writing only through reflection on what I have written can I see the foolishness still left in my mind. And that is the reason I come here. Just when I think I am knowledgable on a subject some one here puts me in my place and shows me there is till much to learn. It hurts a little I cannot lie but enlightenment is a way of life not a destination.

Using the spice and other 'extreme' methods is only a attempt to accelerate the process so one can move farther than he could otherwise in a lifetime. The faster you move the farther you get before the eternal slumber. For some of us this is not a choice, we must seek understanding we cannot be those lucky few who can cast the questions of being out of our minds. We are tormented by it. Only through seeking do we find peace.
