What a great place this is!

El Mescalero

Rising Star
Hi,

My quick bio: middle-aged male (I hate that term) who started using drugs at age 13 and did most of those available at the time. I did the classic psychedelics of the day -- LSD, mushrooms and did peyote once. After I finished college with a science degree, got married and started my career I stopped using drugs and, eventually, even alcohol. One day I was talking to an old friend about some of our experiences in the past and told him about the time I smoked DMT. It had magically ended up in my hands after it crawled out of a drug locker of one of the professors who had a schedule 1 DEA certificate.

Talking about it made me curious again, and knowing that it was a natural substance, I searched the Internet and found this site. I'm really impressed with the discourse here. It's far away from some of the other sites that seem so juvenile sometimes.

So, I've lurked long enough and decided to join and contribute what I can, however small that may be.

Before I finish up here I would encourage everyone to read "The Doors of Perception" by Aldous Huxley. He does a wonderful job explaing the mescaline experience and what I feel is the spiritual nature of these substances. It's probably well-known to most of the members, but if you haven't read it, it's definitely worthwhile

Thanks,

El Mescalero

The Nexus is indeed a great place to be :)

And welcome to the forums!

You started at a very young age, a lot of cases you read about that young don't end up all that well, glad to hear it seems like you got your head on straight.

Hello El Mescalero,

Welcome to the Nexus. Thanks for sharing that great intro essay with us. I really enjoyed reading it. As a woman born in the 1960's, who did a lot of things through the late 1980's then took some time off (except for cannabis) I felt a great personal resonance with your bio. I even got a chance to sit in a peyote circle, once in 1987 . . . :)

Anyway, glad you decided to quit lurking and formally sign up. Lots of great subfora here including one for cactus . . .Also the links in the upper right hand corner were written by folks in the know who really took their time to develop topics such as the wiki (lots of extraction teks here), the FAQ and the Health & Safety sections.

Huxley's book was one of the first ones I read back in the early 1980's when I started becoming curious about psychedelics. He was an amazing person.

Again, a warm welcome to you and I look forward to seeing you around. :D

Welcome to the Nexus El Mescalero:lol: I really relate to your story. I'm approaching middle age myself and began using drugs at the same age. I also took a long break from psychedelics.

I got reintroduced to DMT after watching the documentary DMT: The Spirit Molecule. I had tried DMT several times in my late teens and always had a deep respect for its power and beauty.

After doing a little research I found this amazing group of psychedelic warriors. I agree that some of the other forums can seem a little juvenile, especially compared to the Nexus.

I'm glad you found your way here. I look forward to seeing you around.

Thank you all for the welcome. I really see being older as an advantage right now. When I was a kid I approached psychedelics as just a way to have fun and accidentally had some spiritual experiences. Today I look to see where I can benefit from them and how they can change my life for the better. I want to see what it is that I need to change to live a better life.

I completely second this. . . .

When I was younger, it was just a catalyst to amping the party up.

These days I'm more likely to do them alone than in a group, more likely to have a specific intention rather than just be seeking hedonistic pleasure, get a lot more (i.e. go deeper than ever before) on lower doses, . . . the list goes on and on. It's amazing how much it has changed and for the better. :d
