What are these "Points" and "Ranks"?

I'm just curious about this. Wondering what "Points" is about and curious on how I got negative. Anyone?

EDIT: It must not be bad. Traveler has over... or rather under, -2000.

Asy ou can see I disabled the points system, mainly because I'm not sure about the working of it.

The ranks are as follows:

0-049 posts: Spirit
50-149 posts: Enlightend member
150-> posts: Hyperspace member

And of course there would be the "Guide" which is BlackClo and me, the admins.
