What lighter fluid or alternative?

Migrated topic.

So I live in Canada and we don't have vm&p naphtha available over here. I'm wondering what lighter fluid can be used since I have heard ronsonal no longer works and colemans has additives? What the heck can I use? there has to be something? Or should I just suck it up and pay the $20-30 shipping? Is naphtha re-useable? Would I only have to buy it once?

"Zippo Premium lighter fluid" doesn't work either. It works, but yields with it are ridiculous compared to pure petroleum ether I'm getting from pharmacies. I hope this is not some kind of conspiracy, because they know that their products are not only used as lighter fluid and paint thinner.

Who said ronsonol no longer works, that's what I use and it works fine
IDK I heard somewhere they were bought out by some other company and changed their recipe? So ronsonol works? the little yellow 142ml bottles? Isn't it expensive as hell?

What boiling point petroleum ether do you use

It can be found many places.
Rona sells it as Camping Fuel (the can says "100% Naphtha Petroleum" also in smaller letters), near the barbecues in their larger stores. Many convenience stores sell Ronsonol as zippo fluid, in a yellow and red can. The larger Home Depots also have it, same brand as Rona.
Keep in mind that almost no one in any of these stores is aware that they have Naphtha so asking for it won't help. Make sure what you get does not contain a rust inhibitor, evaporate some of the product before using it to make sure there is no contaminant.

Camping fuel Model #14-431

Name CAS number Conc. (% w/w)
naphtha (petroleum), hydrotreated light 64742-49-0 100

9.22 CAD for 1l sounds like a bargain to me.

MSDS on the bottle says 40-60 degrees Celsius.

Well if I was aware it wasn't called naphtha maybe I would have found that bargain too hahahaah! thanks a lot!

Another one here that uses Ronsonol and has no issues. Swan also works.

You can find Naptha all over the place once you start looking, most home/DIY stores sell Naptha of some variety.
