What non-polar solvents do you recommend?
Hello. I am producing DMT using the STB method. Until now, I have been using hexane as a non-polar solvent, but I am trying to use other non-polar solvents in order to maximise yield.
The candidates I am considering are heptane and naphtha.
How do you rate the non-polar solvent, hexane, in your opinion? Also, are there any other good non-polar solvents?

heptane, naptha, dcm. hexane is good, there is some theorycrafting out there about how broad a solvent is, and thus how much non-spice you might extract, and how well you clean it up as part of your extraction. so you might get higher yeilds with less potency .... but in general a lot of folks seem to find that the alkaloid conent of the begining material is more important than the fractional difference in solvent efficiency. personally, jungle spice red wax is less pure but has a different subjective effect, and is always heavier than white crystal spice, yeah?

to sum up IMO: effeciency in the solvent doesn't appear like a limiting factor worth solving for unless there are some strange resistrictions/use cases.

I think DCM is really great. It holds far more DMT than the majority of other solvents used in extraction. In this recent study of Lazyman's tek.. it was found to hold more than all of the other solvents used. It also pulls a much broader array of alkaloids, which may or may not be what you're after. Either way its a great solvent for doing initial pulls as you don't usually need to do more than one. A mini A/B can be performed to clean up the extract if you so desire. DCM is also not flammable, evaps fast, and has low odour. Its more dense than water, meaning it sits underneath.. making it especially good if you use a separatory funnel. Toluene/Xylene are also great for doing initial pulls. For recrystallization n-heptane is the preferred solvent by most.
