i use mac and linux for working and windows for playing games and producing audio. for some reason i think osx keeps getting worse with each release. in leopard firewire didnt even work correctly.. they had to make a patch for it to work.

i hope we will at some point live in a linux/bsd world. the only problem i have with linux is that i cant get all the tools i need for my work running on it.

i think a poll would be cool to see how many users use which OS.

Laptop: Windows XP Home
HTPC: Windows Vista business (don't ask)
PC GF: Windows XP Pro
PC Main Private: Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista 64 Ultimate
PC Main Work: Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista 32 business, Windows Vista 64 business
Server: Windows Server 2008 standard

All M$, oh well, I make a living out of it.

haha,., nice to hear some of you also use win on a mac. i love the mac hardware but i kinda don't like the way the OS is developing. OSX is a BSD without root access.(you gotta know tricks for root) kinda lame in my opinion..

By day I support various variations of XP and 2003 Server, but at home i'm a Slackware kind of guy (Linux). I'm a gamer too, but I prefer consoles for that, can't be arsed with buggering around with PCs at home as well as at work nowadays.

yeah.. once it becomes work one tries to avoid pcs at home. at least its like that for me. back then i used to produce all my music on a computer.. now i got myself some nice hardware synths and a good MPC4000. i like feelin the knobs!

Dual boot lappy with Ubuntu & WinXp Sp3

xp side for audio-tinkering and compatibility

ubuntu side for nestling into my machine to make real progress

hoping that I will be able to make a total shift to *nix computing ;; it always feels cleaner using an opensource box

I use Mac OsX 10.5 (leopard)
I also have a pc with XP pro but I don't use it much.

I use Final Cut pro and Logic Express quite a lot and it's only available for mac and I like the Mac os. I never upgrade Os X untill there's at least one patch out. Then it works good :)

Isn't Ubuntu a country in Africa? :p hehehe

I have a couple NetBSD systems colocated around the world

Vista on my laptop and desktop and another with Arch Linux for my programming

haha.. dude.. you're into audio stuff... this is getting interesting. - and you used the good ol trackers from amiga! you're my kinda guy! 8 bit rocks tha house! do you happen to know the band "worm is green"? they're from iceland. they rock!

Hi Lorax, are you the same Lorax as on the nook? I decided to make an account here, but I mostly browse the nook.

Anyway I use Linux, I run Slackware. Slackware is the oldest Linux distro that is still actively maintained.

Dual-booting Ubuntu and XP (hate Vista with a passion). I've only begun using Ubuntu very recently. It's driven me quite strongly toward getting my hardware and software in order, and I've never been so amazed with an operating system. I absolutely love open-source!

Plus the free chemistry programs available on Ubuntu can be quite useful 😉

Ubuntu kicks ass, definitely. I hate to use the terminal and its commands however. Not because I'm too lazy to learn - I'm an MS-DOS child and pretty accustomed to command lines and terminals.

I just think that windows have the advantage of extreme useability; not for me, but for the not-so-computer-inclined people. And such people are easily scared by those dreadful command lines. The more point-and-click Ubuntu gets, the more laymen people will use it.

And Ubuntu has done a good job at that. With point-and-click pretty much everything that a simple person wants can be accomplished.

One question though; I do not like my dual booting very much and I really need to use some programs on XP. Do you guys know any good XP emulators that can be used on Ubuntu? I had once seen a good XP emulator working on Mac-OS
