White spirits uk

Migrated topic.
Ok so I'm about to do my second ever extraction, the first time I used Newport lighter fluid (naptha) which cost me £1.25 per 100ml :/
I've read that its possible to use white spirits that are only a fraction of the price? Has anybody in the uk had experience using white spirits? And if so could somebody please recommend a brand :d
Thank you

Stick to lighter fluid.
White spirit...even the low odour Artists White Spirit is 'heavy' naphtha...it doesn't evap and will tend to pull low amounts...

So I've been using 3.2ltrs lighter fluid for 4 pulls on 1kg mrhb this cost me around £35
Not really the most affordable option :( also raises suspicion at the local store.

Am I right believing this amount is necessary? Is it possible to order In bulk off the Internet?

Bartoline premium low odor white spirit works well and pulls lots, even gives big square crystals if allowed to evap down, which in most cases needs to be done, can take a few days to get to the right level for a freeze.

I used low odour white spirit from B&Q for my first ever extraction (many years ago) and although it worked, I found it really hard to breath when smoking the end product. Maybe I didn't let it evaporate enough, but I did leave it under a fan after the freeze precip for about 5 or 6 hours.

I get cans of ronsonol lighter fluid for £1 each. Not bad really.

I used B&Q low odour white spirit and managed to get good results, however i wouldnt reocmend it.

What i had to do was leave it in the freezer over night, then pour off as much as i could before it warmed up enough to redisolve the crystals, then stick it back in the freezer upside with the lid on my container, to drain off the remaining solvent.

this still left enough of the white spirit to partially disolve the crystals but after leaving them to dry out, i ended up with some pretty clean DMT

I couldnt detect any smell of solvent on the crystals, or notice any when smoking it it wasnt smooth until i founjd a good way of vapourising the crystals. DMT has a low vaporisation point, (think its about 60C or is it 80C) so if you get it to hot it becomes harsh.

if you do it right, you hardly notice youve taken a big hit until you get sent into DMT land.

Newport is known to leave traces on test evaps.. I would echo Kermit and recommend Ronsonol myself.

Test evaps are free of deposits/particulate (at least to the naked eye) and you get lovely white spice. It seems to be the cleanest option within the "lighter fluid" choices. It's my preferred choice (cost factor especially). If you freeze precip instead of evap (REALLY cold freezer needed or you should partial evap) you can use it over and over again.

See the following MSDS for details. Note it has one "ingredient", aliphatic hydrocarbon :thumb_up:

Don't use the cheaper B&Q stuff, there's a reason it's less expensive, it's far less refined. If you must use white spirits the only one I can recommend is 'Bartoline Premium Low Odor White Spirit'. And only use that to get the stuff out of the bark, re-x with something lighter.

It's still a lot easier to just use light hydrocarbons in the first place, but needs must sometimes.

On the bottles I can find there is a firm distinct between naphtha and white spirits concerning the length of the molecules:

Naphta, wasbenzine: C7 to C9
White spirit, terpentine : C9 to C12
Lamp oil : C5 to C20
Another lamp oil : C13 to C23
(numbers are indicative)

To compare:
Heptane = C7
Hexane = C6

What is the theoretical ideal range for our pull purposes?
Good result are noted with C7 - C9 naptha.

In my country i only have Zippo lighter fluid... and i have to paid $40 for 125 cm :shock:

C6 is where its best for pulling, Hexane is an absolute godsend, I have completed whole extractions with it, lovely stuff.

Echo this. I have started using Isohexane (less hazardous than Hexane according to the wiki)heated till it is bubbling in a water bath, it has a nice low boiling point. Pulls absolutely pure white spice using nomans tex or cybs tek and freeze precipitated. Drys in less than hour from the freezer. I will post a link to where you can buy it when i get to my other computer if you are interested. It pulls slightly less than a naphtha solvent, however there is no need to re-ex so no loss of yield or wasting time:thumb_up:

Last nomans extraction with 50g MHRB i used three pulls of Isohexane with 50ml each pull. This resulted in 780mg of pure white. A 4th pull next day resulted in 116mg slightly cream colored spice.

Another massive plus is this solvent is very wife friendly as it hardly smells:d
