Yellow Caapi Extract 30:1

Hi all,

I recently obtained some yellow caapi extract 30:1. Prior to this I have always worked with caapi wood.

I have read some reviews on the caapi extract and there seems to be a lot of poor results.

What is the general consensus here regarding the caapi extract?

Hello and welcome - sorry for the lateness of reply! Sometimes things just get overlooked…

It's hard to know what any given extract made by a third party under unspecified conditions will be like. The 30:1 value merely means that 1g extract came from 30g plant material and doesn't tell us anything in particular about the alkaloid content. The efficiency of that part of the extraction process may have been poor, or amazing. The best way to find out, besides making the extract oneself, is to process it further in order to determine its alkaloid levels.

There's also the possibility that an unscrupulous third party could have presented an extract with an intentionally depleted level of β-carbolines.

IMO, you're best of dissolving all (or maybe a carefully measued proportion of) your extract, filtering out insolubles, then precipitating the freebase alkaloids with a base like sodium carbonate solution.

It may also be worth considering whether any unknown contaminants are likely to be present.

Hm, maybe "30:1" actually means you have to use 30× as much extract as you would of the vine - a sort of inverse extract…

Definitely, you would need much more of this extract than expected, I have extracted one of these 30:1 and it was just little bit over 2 % of alkaloids.

That's barely 2:1 based on alkaloids from a really strong vine. The extracts must be an attempt to make weak af vine vaguely [whispers] saleable. If that 2% was from a proportionately efficient alkaloidal extract, we'd be looking at source material with about 0.069% alkaloids.

I have extracted it because friends complained that it is very weak. We had at least three different batches and I have heard about two another cases of these extracts to be very weak subjectively.
Hard to imagine other reason for selling it except financial gain - anybody will find out it is not working properly, which will cause a big loss of seller's credibility.
