Inconceivable! But is it impossible? Note that these are unwashed freebase crystals, with a decent amount of sodium carbonate residue coating them; possibly 2+grams assuming individual had 5mL of sodium carbonate solution trapped throughout the crystals before drying (this is an upper end estimate, crystals were well drained before evapping to dry).

I find it unlikely that even the highest quality MHRB could contain so much DMT. Any ideas or explanations? Individual followed the extraction outlined in my previous post Beautiful crystal formation = slightly modded BLAB

Weight so far is 15.57g of unwashed (yet extremely clear sans the white coating of sodium carbonate) freebase from 100g of shredded brazillian p/p inner MHRB. Some of the chunks are >1g in weight.

Individual would like to bioassay potency at some point this weekend, but is somewhat unnerved by his findings... I understand that limonene will extract 'jimjam' rather than pure DMT freebase; is it possible that individual's root bark simply contained a high % of jim and not so much jam? Lots of NaOH made if through the extraction somehow? Or, the inconceivable: individual's bark is 13% dmt?

What is the easiest way to post pix here?

EDIT: Pix posted. First pic is self-explanatory. Second above a 600mL flask. Third is the pile of crystals before it was completely dry. Fourth is after drying (notice the white sodium carbonate coating the crystals).

If you use a dilute sodium carbonate solution, it should dissolve sodium carb excess but not freebase dmt.

If you have acetone, it would very easily dissolve dmt freebase but it would leave other salts like sodium carbonate behind.

You can also try to dissolve part of it in vinegar, re-base and re-extract, and see what you get out of that. If its DMT, the loss in this should be minimal but it could get rid of potential impurities.

I dont know what just happened there. I seriously doubt a 13% yield is possible, but who knows, maybe you did something to leave the elves very happy and they decided to make you a gift ;)

Be sure to do some more testings and clean ups in it before bioassaying it

My very first extraction yielded crystals that looked very similar to this and I, too, was baffled. They were very large and completely clear in the glass in the fridge but once I strained and dried them for a few hours they turned white. It ended up being mostly sodium carbonate and barely any freebase DMT. I still don't know what exactly I did wrong, but after that failed attempt I switched to q21's tek 2 and fell in love with it.

I'll tell my friend to try the sodium carbonate wash. I'll keep you all posted!

A week after sitting uncovered in a dark closet, the 'freebase' has turned completely white and opaque. What were once large chunks of clear solid crystals now crumble upon even the slightest contact. Material is dropped into a diluted sodium carbonate solution (pH 11.2) which dissolves easily and turns the solution cloudy pale yellow. Some clear flakes are observed floating on the top of the solution. Flakes will not dissolve with agitation.

Solution is refrigerated pending future experimentation.

After 3 hours in the refrigerator, solution has again crystal formation on bottom of flask. Liquid is decanted off. Crystal formation looks very similar to previous phase of experiment, but much smaller in mass. Dilute sodium carbonate solution (pH 10.70) is added and swirled, most of the formation dissolves on contact. Solution decanted/filtered, leaving small pile of clear crystals on bottom of flask, and some orange particles on the filter paper.

Flask and paper are left to dry uncovered in the dark.

Thoughts: Very little of the original awesomeness appears to be dmt freebase. I find it interesting that the chilled sodium carbonate solution interacted with the freebase in such a way as to form the massive crystalline structure in the first place. Then again, my chemistry knowledge is limited to 1st year gen chem, and crystals are far from my expertise.

That's the only reasonable explanation for such a yield. ...If it would be DMT.

Tele, I will keep on wishing for that gift ;)

Dangit did they look awesome. Looks like yield from first pull ~200mg; about what I expected.

Unfortunately, crystals have once again dried to a brittle white powder; wondering if individual has completely botched the extraction at some point and simply has a 200mg pile of sodium carbonate powder.

I got over 10-15% yield of white crystals. My STB, although it was rather yellow, gave me 17g dried from two lbs of his bark.

I think you've made an error in your calculations.

Two pounds is 907 grams. So to calculate your yield, you divide 17g/907g = 1.9%

1.9% is very possible from good potent bark. But I doubt that you'll ever see 15% unless there's some serious genetic engineering.
