1st timer may have fucked up marsofold tek -- please help!

SWIM followed the marsofold tek as follows:

first off, didn't just powder the bark. Bought it finely shredded. Don't know if that makes a difference.

Used half pound of bark to start with. Halved everything else in the tek except the gallon-wine-jug suggestion.

Let sludge settle from extraction for about 4 hours.

poured off liquid into wine jug (it's still a gallon jug, but half of everything else.)

HERE'S where SWIM may have fucked up:

Prepared the lye solution in an empty plastic jug, but they had another plastic jug just like it with a similar amount of water with a few drops of juice maybe.

SWIM isn't sure if they used the lye solution, or the water. At first thought they did it right and poured out the water from the other container but then realized it may have been the lye solution they just poured out and they may have used water in the wine jug.

Added 125 mL naptha, then filled 1-gallon wine jug with water to an inch from the top: this may be important because it's twice as much water proportionately as the tek normally calls for, since they halved everything else in the recipe but still used a 1-gallon wine jug.

Let sit 3 hours, then used a baster to put the clear stuff on top into two small bowls which were then set in a long flat tupperware container with the lid closed almost completely on top of it. Didn't have saran wrap so SWIM thought glassware set inside of tupperware might work. Could SWIM just use tupperware on it's own?

Is there a way to tell if the solution used at the part where SWIM should've added the lye solution, actually was the lye solution or just water?

What would happen if it was just water?

And if SWIM did mess it up, could it be saved or is it too late?

SWIM apologizes, but has a hard time understanding the chemical concepts behind this.
 
save the mixture for sure. when the mixture was shaken did it heat up a little, that would tell you that the water did indeed have lye in it. if anything, get some ph papers and test the mixture. or simply add more lye, more won't hurt even if there is some in there already, it will only break down the plant more. then do another pull of naphtha and let evap. Why is SWIY putting it in Tupperware, you are trying to get it to evaporate correct? good luck, you will be able to save this.
 
SWIM's using marsofold tek, so had a prepared mixture of 35 g of lye with a half-pint water. They're pretty sure it did heat up when they mixed it originally... but not sure if the mixture they poured into the wine jug was the lye solution. they went ahead and added more lye though. Here's what they did:

Ok, so SWIM let the naptha solution from the first time sit in those bowls in the freezer for about 10 hours, and didn't see any crystals starting to form, and didn't have any residue on the filter after he filtered them. So he assumed the lye wasn't added in the original basification step. Took the naptha and set it aside for later use. Note that at this point there was no clear layer of naptha still on top of the wine jug. Added 35 g of lye to maybe half a cup of water (this was a very violent reaction, he noted, and the water turned very yellow) poured that into the wine jug. Immediately a layer of clear naptha began to form at the top (even though all of it was pulled off the first time). Also made it very cloudy, almost like a galaxy cluster viewed from space. SWIM thinks there is a lot of emulsions and wonders if this is normal. SWIM pulled off the clear layer from the top that formed immediately, but is letting the rest of it sit, so more can rise to the top, but put that first clear layer in the freezer to see if crystals start to form.
 
okay a little confused but I think I can help your friends out.

Emulsions are due to not enough lye in my understanding, or not hot enough, but I think it will be fine with the 35g's SWIY added. if not add more, or just heat the wine jug with hot water to help separate. Freeze precipitation in SWIM's experience has never worked, though he never really tried much. In order for this to work one needs a certain amount of DMT per ml of naphtha, and that is difficult to figure out, more hassle then wanted in SWIM's opinion.

Cloudy is good, SWIY probably will get precipitation with the amount of bark SWIY used, but if nothing is precipitating out of the naphtha put it in a pan to evap and be patient. This way you will know for show if there was DMT in that naphtha.

It does seem like the water must not have been basified the first time so with the first naphtha pull try reusing that and then freeze or evap.

My friend asked me to thank you for your advice. He heated the jug in a hot water bath, which he believes cleared out the emulsions, pulled off some more naptha, then added the naptha from the first pull back in for another pull. Let the jug stay in the hot water bath, pulled it off, and is letting it evap in an oven that's not on, but which generally stays about 100 F anyway, so hopefully that will speed up the evap a little bit.

Later when it becomes sludge, he'll just put it on a food dehydrator rack ftw.

The freeze precips have done absolutely nothing so far. Just a moment ago, my friends roomate put a pizza in the same oven not realizing what was happening in there. As soon as a funny smell started filling their apartment the oven was turned off and the naptha was taken out. This is probably the most botched up extraction ever attempted, he mentioned. Says if there's nothing after the evap then he'll just scrap everything and start again.
 
First off good thing nothing explosive happened, got to be careful, an oven isn't a good idea anyway. And with any luck the oven/pizza accident may have only evaporated away just a little DMT, since it is really soluble and stays well in the naphtha it takes a lot to get heated out. So i've read. Don't let your friend give up so easily, keep the bark for some time until your friend is sure it doesn't have DMT in it. Practice makes perfect. Try looking at the Spice STB/FASA tek, that is so easy according to SWIM. It even looks easy to me. Lots of DMT-Fumarate in no time. But actually SWIY's tek is also good for freebase DMT. well good luck again, hope your friend finds some yellow goodies waiting for him/her.
