3 Fail extractions

So, my first pull I used Noman's tek, with 50g of Mimosa bark, in the end I had 400mg, which I was okay with.

My second, I used Cyb's Hybrid ATB tek, 50g of Mimosa bark which I got a measly 200mg.

Third and last time I also used Cyb's tek, 50g of Mimosa bark, and ended up with a really small amount.. like 60mg small.

So from 150g of bark, I'm left with 650mg of dmt.. I'm not sure what I did wrong and why I am having so much trouble, but I followed both guides exactly as they are. My question to you guys is, is there any tips you can give a noobie whos having trouble getting a decent amount of spice? Maybe theres a common mistake that a lot of people make to get low amounts? Maybe provide a different tek? I still have 400g of bark and at this rate I don't wanna waste it

If I understand you right you have only done one pull in each extraction. you have to do more then one pull. if you have still the mhrb,lye, water solution just do more pulls. you should do at least 3 pulls and maybe forth one just to make sure there is nothing left. one pull will not get all spice out of it.

oh i shuold have said, I did 4-5 pulls for each. for both of my extractions using Cyb's, I would do heated pulls as it says in the guide, spaced out 45 mins each, but after I freeze precip'd, (last time it was for 48 hours) a few of the roasting dishes were completely clear, no white crystals at all..

What you can try is evaporate a bit of naphtha till it gets cloudy and then try to freeze it. Maybe you used too much naphtha and because its not saturated enough the spice wont precipitate.

Also if that does not work try to evaporate naphtha completely.

If you dont get more out of it after you tried my suggestions then I guess that is all you can get out of it. It could be that your mimosa is not very potent.

This all apply providing you have done the teks properly.

Maybe you could try The Fluffy White Funfest Tek 2 here and take a look at this thread. Its my favorite tek and it gives you very clean, white spice

All I can say is go with Nomans STB tek but stay within 100grams..

If I had 400MHRB left I'd do 2x 100gram MHRB / 100mg lye / 600ml water (In 2 jars)(then combine Naphtha)

and 100gram using 500ml water and another with 400ml water... (Separate freezes) to see what effect water has...

could you post a picture of your Yield? I'm curious to compare.. :thumb_up:

What solvent did you use? This makes a difference...

Quality of bark popped into my mind as I read the OP.

What kind of solvent did you use?

Or your freezer isn't cold enough. Is it on the lowest setting?
Did you save the solvent? If you did, try doing a full evap.

I'm not sure how to tell the quality of my bark but it has a nice purple-ish color to it. I used naphtha, and I'm not saying it's any of the tek's I am doing, that's not what I meant at all, I'm sure it's my fault I'm just not sure what I'm doing, I know I have trouble pulling naphtha off the top but i usually manage, maybe I'll try Noman's again, but with 100g, and hope for the best

Hey guys, I was poking around and I might try this extraction, hows it look?
/e I hope the picture works. If not, it's basically:
add 100g of lye to 600ml of water, add 100g of pulverised bark, let sit for 24 hours. add 150ml of naphtha, wait 24 hours. remove 75ml of naphtha(not sure why you don't remove it all?) and freeze for 24 hrs, repeat.

I use to have problems with getting the naphtha off the top. I now use Kilner jar and glass funnel, turn it upside down and all the naphtha is forced in to the spout. I can take off 80% in 30 seconds with a pipette. I use nomans tek with 50g bark 1900ml water and 127g of lye. pulls are 40ml, 30ml, 30ml and final pull of 20ml. Usual yiels of of 1 to 1.4%. Hope this helps

A really easy quick tek that swim likes to do is to simply simmer MHRB in vinegar water for 20-30 minutes, strain, save liquid. Repeat until very little to no color comes over with liquid, signalling the bark is spent (usually 5 pulls). Then SWIM fine filters out the sediment and reduces all the liquid to a workable amount, like .5L-1L. This is then defatted a few times with some naptha, then basified with lye, then pulled 4 times with naptha or zippo fluid. Then it gets freeze precipitated and crystals collected. Its foolproof really as long as you dont boil the pulls too hot, and only takes a few hours. And you know that you get all the goodies out.

I think I know what did wrong, I think I heated it too hot when I was doing pulls and any other time while following cyb's guide, would that ruin it?

Yes there is a good chance boiling too hot will reduce yeild. Also if it is too acidic.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but can you please elaborate on this ? I'd like to try defat next time so can you tell me how much naphtha you use and once used do you discard it and so on ... Thanks

Smokerx, it depends on how much water layer you have, but if it is .5-1L you only need 50-100ml naptha each defat. Just mix it around for 10 minutes 2-3 times. Fresh naptha should be used for defat imo. Swim likes to save his naptha after use in a waste bucket and recycle it for future use after distillation.

Not substantial, but it removes plant oils giving a better end product.
