Migrated topic.
For me, DMT has affirmed that there are no answers, only more questions. I could elaborate, but it would really just be window dressing for this core theme. There's no way to delineate how DMT has altered my perceptions. I mean, how can you delineate something that is literally affecting your mind on a daily basis? It's not just that you use this substance and it alters your perceptions. The implications and meanings and lessons continue to reverberate throughout your daily life following the experience. DMT will not give your life meaning, any more than a self-help book, or guru, or any psychedelic will. You are the only person who can give your life meaning. That does not mean that it can't help you in your quest to bring meaning into your life...just don't think that a substance holds the answers which you seek. "True knowledge and understanding", to my mind, is very similar to the question of Life the Universe and Everything presented by Douglas Adams; if you were to be given the "answer" (42) you would simply realize you had no idea whatsoever as to what the question was. Welcome to the Nexus, I look forward to reading about your experience(s) and remember:

The ride does not require an explanation, just occupants, that's where you come in... :d

I only smoked DMT once, please don't generalise what my personal experience with DMT is:
The struggle to let go, teached me how attached i am to this world and my loved ones, and that i fear death. Apart from that i find it very hard to make sense to the experience. Honestly, the weirdness of DMT (or shall i say my own universe) scared the shit out of me. I am going back but it will take a lot of courage. I'm thinking about the experience every single day, and like SnozzleBerry said i have so much more questions.

It may not affect your perception of life as you know it but may stretch your perception of reality and all that goes along with it. Be prepared and make sure you read the Health & Safety section. You will be changed forever, good, bad or otherwise. I have watched more than a few people on this forum wish they had never tried DMT. I look forward to reading your future posts and you will find all the support you need in the Nexus family!

If the experience is significantly strong enough it has the potencial to change your perception of everything.

I think about my experiences every single day.

Proceed with balanced thought and intelligence. Once you open the box its hard to close it.

As snozzleberry said, I couldn't pinpoint my beliefs before and after. It would be like trying to catch a ripple in a river. I also tried various psychedelics prior to spice.
You won't be left with an answer, but you will be pointed on the right path. I think you will acquire an insatiability for insight, but you won't feel the need to understand or tie down an answer, or reason or meaning. As mentioned earlier, please check out the health and safety section, and read other members experiences.
Best of luck :)

Just don't end up using it carelessly; it is a drug that should be respected, because your mind is something that should be respected. After powerful experiences, take it easy for a while and integrate the experiences into your life. You can gain so much from this but it's up to you, not the spice.

As for the experience itself... you'll see. Just try to go all the way, using the right instruments and techniques. How is SWIY going to be administering?

I'm pretty sure I had significant ego-death so it was quite eye opening. It will take awhile to integrate, but the lesson it ultimately tries to teach you seems to be to slow down, appreciate life for what it is, not get caught up into making it something different, and to ultimately live in the present moment.

I'll just echo most of what was said here, though I've only had about 10 trips. Depending on your prior experience with psychedelics, you may have a lot or a little that will be turned around on its head. It sounds like you've questioned a lot already, so you may be just fine with the integration afterwards, but there is indeed something that stays with you. For me it's been extremely positive so far, but I did go into it informed, with some experience, and with more balance in my life than probably ever. That's important. If you have any beliefs in particular that you worry will be questioned, there's a good chance they will be. That being said, I people here don't seem to necessarily hold the same firm beliefs, regardless of their experience, at least not outside of wanting to appreciate life and be well. So in that sense, I think the only "philosophical" danger is to those who are holding on too tightly to something they probably shouldn't be holding on to.

you have gotten some outstanding reply's here. id like to add just a few thoughts not yet stated.
ive worked with dmt over the past 2 years off and on. probably more than 40 or 50 journeys. some were the most profound experiences of my entire life hands down. most were not. id say even after i really got my method of vaporizing down i still had a 2 out of 10 honest true peak break through experiences.

when friends ask me about dmt and wanting to try it i tell them this;

in my opinion, and its just that, an opinion, if your serious about this stuff you need to do "work" with the spice. just like you wouldn't go to one yoga class or try a week of meditating then wonder why your life isnt any better and yoga isnt all that, same goes with dmt.

to think one's going to try it and whamo! nail it first time and have huge insightful changes and knowledge isnt very realistic. ive heard it happening but its far from common. its wonderful exciting work but it can get very frustrating, especially after you have had your first break through! i started really chasing my own tail for a while. i call it breakthrough fever. it can get obsessive and actually dangerous.

so what im saying is i applaud your decision to use dmt. it could be the best thing you have ever done for yourself. be patient and humble. work with the spice but dont over work it. the break through experience is life changing but dont let it rule you. understand that the answers you may receive to your questions may ultimately show you your questions are pointless. the knowledge is out there but its also already inside you. you may soon realize that the knowledge you seek is far to complex to exist in the 3 dimensional world. you will be left only with the impression. if this doesn't make any sense thats ok. maybe read this thread again after a few months of spice work and it will.

good luck my friend, and welcome to the strangest shit you could ever imagine!!!

Just be ready to recant some of your diehard beleifs

Yes, simply believing that you have the meaning of life might be a dangerous thought to go into the experience with. If you try to keep that belief intact while on DMT, you could be in for a rude awakening.

Like any other experience in life, the use of DMT may or may not alter your perception in general. You may not even be able to remember what part of you perception was altered depending on the intensity of the experience. Not everyone can bring back everything they experienced, nor felt. Kinda like how not everyone in this world can translate their thought onto words thoroughly 100%. There is no real boundaries of before and after. If you are wanting to facilitate a changed perception, the catch is you will probably find it with or without the spice. It is like anything else, it is what you make of it. Why it varies from each people is because the experience facilitated has a big variance in nature.

As a example, SWIM's personal experience with spice the before and after can be related to getting on a different ride at Six Flags. For example picture riding the Goliath then the Rattler afterward. While if it was the 1st time to ride anything, you can see it can change your world in the means of adrenaline rushes. But will riding the Rattler shatter your known world into tiny bits and reinstall a profound perception to your life? Hard to say. The best I can tell you is it may or may not.

What spice will do for you is that it will grant you passage to a new experience. A similar psychedelic experience with the intensity being overwhelming in a few moments of notice. Then whatever unfolds will, either way you will get to step forth into a very colorfully vivid altered reality.

Safe journeys and I wish you my best. :)

don't get too hung up on any one idea. see for yourself with no expectation at all.

remember to breath through any tough spots

An H2G2 quote and a Waking Life quote in one post!? You, Mr. SnozzleBerry are a man after my own heart. Kudos!

I always subscribed to the belief in Buddhism of "Buddha nature" that every being has a divine enlightened Buddha within them that the one within me can connect with and all these amazing creatures are here as my own personal teachers to guide me toward enlightenment. After a few very powerful DMT breakthroughs I now view it as every creature has a fractaline kaleidoscopic ever-morphing 5-dimensional elf-clown within that dances and laughs with the one in me, it especially shows through when people are having fun and really lost in enjoying themselves, I see and feel that connection and can't help but let loose the old cosmic giggle at the absurdity of the reality of it all. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

What a fun universe to live in ;)

I really don't know what to expect with everyones opinions being so different so I'll just go into it with an open mind and take it when my mind is fresh and I feel ready.

to be more accurate your getting many different explanations but most of the reply's are all saying generally the same thing. you have the right attitude by being open to whatever it has to show and teach you. thats all you can really do.

i hope you come back and tell us how things went.
