Hi all, I'm planning to do an A/B on acacia confusa bark. I was told in the chat that this would be the appropriate subforum for this question.
I can confirm that this is from an actual 30 year old acacia confusa tree. I don't think it's root bark, probably trunk bark. Now, because of where I am I wasnt able to really specify exactly what I want and reveal what I want it for so it's a kinda "take what you can get" situation.
From my understanding the good part of the tree is the phloem, with the inner wood not being all that useful. So, I cannot identify the phloem of this no matter how much I try. There are not any guides I can find out there for identifying the specific inner parts of acacia confusa bark lol. What seems to be the phloem also seems too thick to be it, but at the same time the tree is quite old so maybe? Or maybe this is almost all useless wood? I can barely see anything that I can identify as point between what could be the phloem and the wood. I guess if the blood red portion is it (which would be good!) then I can sorta see a point where it becomes slightly more yellow? Which I guess could be the barrier? It came a little wet but I dried it out fully, so these are pictures of dry bark.
So I come here to ask, can anyone identify if what I have is useful? Is the large blood red part immediately below the outer bark actually a very thick phloem and it's very useful? Or just.... not. I have 4kg of it so I'm sure I can get something but I dunno if it's going to be defatting over and over.
I'm not in a place where I can easily get the proper stuff to do a small extraction and test it, other than I guess trying whatever comes out on myself of course.
I'm not sure if identification via photos like this is even possible but if so can anyone try to tell me if what I have is useful, mostly phloem? Or useless, mostly wood that doesnt contain anything useful? Or anything? Kinda a long a way of asking "Is this useful?"
Thanks.
