Acetone Extraction?

Could a simple extraction of <10g or so be done with acetone instead of high proof ethanol? My thinking is that acetone is much more volatile than alcohol, so a crude power/resin could be obtained from evaporating the final solution for immediate usage?

Would make sense, but I dont ever remember reading that the actives are soluble in acetone...I have searched around for a while for different methods of extractions. A search on the wiki under the chemical properties page, it gives no info regarding the solubility in acetone...

I guess you could always give it a shot and see how it goes. Its not like there is any worry about it pulling anything toxic...worst comes to worst your left with an inactive powder thats just either fungal matter or something else inside the mushroom. I would recommend drying the acetone as well to make sure of its purity.

I have seen from places on nexus that psilocybin is not soluble in acetone, but acetone is actually used as a means to remove impurities before extracting the psilocybin. Try using methanol as it evaporates quickly and can be found cheaply in consumer stores.

So do acetone pulls on powdered mushrooms,discard liquid, let mushrooms dry, then methanol pulls should yield pretty pure psilocybin/psilocin?

No but this is about as pure as you will get it without advanced techniques. This is what I too have concluded will be the only reliable method for a home extractor to obtain a substance with a reasonable amount of psilocybin for easy storage.
