Hey, I have a question I was hoping someone might be able to help with.

I accidentally grabbed a different brand of non polar solvent of the shelf to use and as I started mixing it with my basified solution I realized it contained acetone! At around 15+%.. so probably 30ish mls of the pure acetone is now in my solution.. is thier any way to mitigate this? Such as something stronger to do further pulls after my first with this nonpolant? To get he rest out of solution even if it ends up jungle?

Will the acetone mixed with basic solution be trapping the DMT in the solution? As acetone doesnt seperate? I guess that's my question :(

You are fine

It does sound like a minor fuck-up and you have valid reasons to worry.

You just need to force the acetone out of the basified solution.

Acetone separates out of water if the water has loads of salt.

You need to dump plenty of table salt in your basified soup (aim for 10% w/v) and you should be fine. Acetone will migrate on top along with the aliphatic hydrocarbons.

Just a note, you will, most likely, not be able to freeze-precipitate anything. The alkaloids you're after are too soluble in acetone. You're better off evaporating everything then recrystalise using non--acetone naptha.

Another thing that can probably work is doing multiple (like >5) slightly basified (to ensure not losing DMT) water washes. When adding acetone to NP + water, acetone will go mostly (I don't know precisely how much, but like 65% or so) to the water. Some stays in the nonpolar, but repeatedly washing with water will remove most of the acetone from the NP.

When you have your NP separated, add water and shake thoroughly. Discard the water and repeat.

EDIT: I just realized that potentially you will still lose a bunch of DMT because the water you will be discarding now has acetone in it.

Another strategy may be to distill/cook the acetone out of the NP, if the NP has a significantly higher boiler point than acetone (56 C)? Be careful not to set the house on fire ;)
 
Yeah, I would evap if this happened to me.

To better understand the naphta/acetone water washing you can look up the Gibbs triangle for the system. Essentially this is a phase map that tells you the composition of each layer (and if the layers even form).

Another means of removal of acetone from naphtha would be formation of a bisulfite complex. Sodium metabisulfite can be obtained from brew shops for use as a preservative. I have used this reagent to remove MEK from ethanol as well.
