Basically, i can get sand from a reservoir beach, not fine sand like at the beach, but no larger than 1/16-1/32" grains. I can also source this from a dried up riverbed that is basically volcanic rock silt, and is porous/light, or a running river shore that has sand similar to what i can find at the lake. Though the lake is a bit more volcanic rock, than stone sand at the river.

I'd rather not buy it for my cactus mix, i can get peat locally, already have a bag of soil mix/natural mix made from local ingredients, and i just need a soil aireator/drainage enhancing element to the mix.

BTW, this is high sierra, alpine territory, with an artificial reservoir at the base of a fragment active volcano thats erupted once in the last century, and once was a supervolcano (hence the volcanic rock/sand/silt here ~30m from its base).

Just looking for suggestions if i should get the volcanic porous coarse sand, riverbed sand, or artificial reservoir sand i have available to me locally, and free.
