I can't work out how to embed videos. Can someone give me a step by step idiots guide?

sure.

1. go to youtube
2. find the video you want to link to
3. copy the youtube url to the clipboard (it looks like this:

)
4. insert it into a post like this:

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkd3_Z_B8xc[/youtube]

and it will show up like this:
